In typical Distributed File Systems like gluster, the contents of the files are distributed across many storage servers, and the "metadata" is managed by a single metadata server or a small cluster of metadata servers. By "metadata", Distributed File Systems folks mean the directory structure -- what files are under what paths -- and ownership and permission bits and timestamps, and also maybe some information about which storage servers are holding which files. In Tahoe-LAFS, the directory structure part of that is encrypted by the storage client and then uploaded to the same storage servers that hold the file data. Those storage servers can't tell whether a given block of ciphertext that they've been asked to hold contains encrypted file data or encrypted directory data. In Tahoe-LAFS, the "which storage server holds which file" question is answered by the client *searching* the servers for the file when it wants to read or write it. This means no metadata anywhere needs to be updated when storage servers come and go, but it does mean more network operations are needed to begin uploading or downloading a file. We use a consistent hashing scheme, with a "tweakable" extension invented by Brian Warner, to make it so that the client usually looks in the right place to find the file with its first guess. Professor Bill Allen, a former St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter, is teaching a three-hour course titled "Science Investigative Reporting: Drone Journalism." The class is using drones made by the school's engineering department. http://gatewayjr.org/2013/02/05/lawmaker-concerned-about-using-drones-to-col lect-news/ To fly a drone in US National Air Space (NAS), requires FAA licensing, which includes certification that the drone is safe, and that it is flown by someone who has a pilot's license. And their house will be graphically circled. On one level, the project, sort of the ultimate in customized publishing, is unsurprising: of course a magazine knows where its subscribers live. But it is still a remarkable demonstration of the growing number of ways databases can be harnessed. Apart from the cover image, several advertisements are customized to reflect the recipient's particulars. Nick Gillespie, editor in chief of Reason, said the magazine, with an editorial mission of "Free Minds, Free Markets,'' used the stunt to illustrate the cover article about the power and importance of databases. "Our story is man bites dog," Mr. Gillespie said. "Everybody, including our magazine, has been harping on the erosion of privacy and the fears of a database nation. It is a totally legit fear. But they make our lives unbelievably easier as well, in terms of commercial transactions, credit, you name it." Rodger Cosgrove, president of Entremedia, a direct marketing firm and a member of Reason's board, assisted in coming up with a program that allows the subscriber list to be integrated with satellite photographs. He also worked with Xeikon, the manufacturer of the printer that made the endless customization possible. Netscape 6 ruined all my pictures?

I need help and I don't know who to ask - I'm VERY new at this. I downloaded Netscape 6 and it has ruined all the pictures I had scanned and saved when I had Netscape 4. Can you tell me how to fix it? I tried to re-download 4 but I guess once you have 6 you can't go back! Every picture I try to print now comes out all black. Any suggestions? I appreciate any help you can give me or someplace you can tell me to go to look the info up. Please keep in mind the instructions you give me have to be VERY basic, I know nothing!!! I would have liked to have seen some personal input from you - what made you start this site, why, for how long you've been doing this. With a personal touch and a feeling of getting to know you I would be more inclined to visit again, like visiting an old friend. Your site doesn't give me that feeling. The layout was good, and the content was excellent, it just felt like it was missing something. ~~~~ The tabbed interface is nice. But the center table with the border looks off center. Perhaps making the table more centered and higher/wider, maybe adding a bgcolor would help. ~~~~ This is a very crisp and clean site. Colorful without being too flashy. On the pages I would recommend moving the menu with the links to the top of the page - I first thought I had to use my back button to keep going back to the choices. I was impressed with the selection of games, jokes, and everything you had on your site. Netscape 6 ruined all my pictures?

I need help and I don't know who to ask - I'm VERY new at this. I downloaded Netscape 6 and it has ruined all the pictures I had scanned and saved when I had Netscape 4. Can you tell me how to fix it? I tried to re-download 4 but I guess once you have 6 you can't go back! Every picture I try to print now comes out all black. Any suggestions? I appreciate any help you can give me or someplace you can tell me to go to look the info up. Please keep in mind the instructions you give me have to be VERY basic, I know nothing!!! Would recommend a few more well made graphics and a redesign on the table. ~~~~ I love the URL for your site, and did a lot of smiling at the cartoons and jokes. I would have liked to have seen some personal input from you - what made you start this site, why, for how long you've been doing this. With a personal touch and a feeling of getting to know you I would be more inclined to visit again, like visiting an old friend. Your site doesn't give me that feeling. The layout was good, and the content was excellent, it just felt like it was missing something. ~~~~ The tabbed interface is nice. But the center table with the border looks off center. Perhaps making the table more centered and higher/wider, maybe adding a bgcolor would help. ~~~~ This is a very crisp and clean site. Colorful without being too flashy. On the pages I would recommend moving the menu with the links to the top of the page - I first thought I had to use my back button to keep going back to the choices. I was impressed with the selection of games, jokes, and everything you had on your site. I bookmarked it to return to, and that's something you could include (directions on bookmarking your site). ~~~~ Fun Site which was easy to navigate and pages were clean- looking.
