I don't know what to do about this external message from lodewijk andr de la porte. I guess it's largely motivated by an intuitive idea of how a "Prestige Bitcoin" idea is supposed to look like. But the Prestige system has mechanics that need to be explained. I've done that in the documentation on my own web space: http://radivis.com/public/prestigefluidodoc.pdf (the paragraph about the Fluido is hardly relevant for Prestige Bitcoin). Criticizing an idea that is not really understood is problematic, but let me try to comment on some points: "I think what you really want to achieve is to create another facebook-like button, a way to measure your epeen or a donation system." Prestige Bitcoin and Prestige Fluido would be all of that at once. "It's hard to convince people that money should be decentralised, but it'll be even harder to convince them that giving likeing should be decentralised." My plan is finally having centralised and decentralised systems running in parallel. Both models have their advantages and disadvantages. "It's either important that something earns you money or that something is really good, or both. Doing something just for the prestige of it is pretentious and it'll prevent you from doing what you truly believe in." I guess you are thinking about the tension between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. AFAIK research suggests that extrinsic motivation based on social appreciation is much less problematic than extrinsic motivation by money. Prestige Bitcoin (or Prestige Fluido) would probably lie somewhere in between, because those are hybrid systems. Unfortunately there are some problems that my system can't solve. It's not a panacea for everything. But it's reasonable to expect that it's less bad that the system we are working in right now. "Having a currency prestige system is not going to help anyone but those already popular, those who least need it." This is an issue that can hardly be prevented in any kind of reputation based economy. It's still better to have a reputation based economy in addition to our current money based economy. "What drives you to want to engage in this project?" In short: Creating a better kind of economy (at least as complement to the current one). Lucrative update

Lucrative release 4 is out. I know many people are used to seeing releases numbered like "0.000001", "0.000002", "2.0.3.0.14.657" etc. but release numbering systems are essentially arbitrary in nature so don't get excited as Lucrative goes toward version 50+. This release is a fairly minor one, but included some changes such as the client name that I wanted to get out as soon as possible. There is also a new development weblog at http://lucrative.thirdhost.com/weblog/. I went through an install with someone over IRC last night and made a blog entry summarizing the install notes. I recommend reading the notes before attempting an install. I am glad to help with an install, drop me a note at patrick(a)lfcgate.com if you have trouble. For example in the context of intrusion detection, intelligent guardian agents may be used to implement active protection strategies on a firewall or intelligent monitoring agents can be used to analyse the behaviour of agents migrating through a network. Part of the inspiration for such multi-agent systems comes from primitive animal behaviour, such as that of guardian ants protecting their hill or from biological immune systems. Topics of Interest - ------------------ We welcome the submission of papers from the full spectrum of issues associated with security in mobile multiagent systems, both in the public Internet and in private networks. While there is still considerable hype concerning agent technologies, there is also an increasing awareness of the problems involved. In particular, that these applications will not be successful unless security issues can be adequately handled. Although there is a large body of work on cryptographic techniques that provide basic building-blocks to solve specific security problems, relatively little work has been done in investigating security in the multiagent system context. The introduction of mobile software agents significantly increases the risks involved in Internet and WWW-based applications. For example, if we allow agents to enter our hosts or private networks, we must offer the agents a platform so that they can execute correctly but at the same time ensure that they will not have deleterious effects on our hosts or any other agents / processes in our network. If we send out mobile agents, we should also be able to provide guarantees about specific aspects of their behaviour, i.e., we are not only interested in whether the agents carry-out their intended task correctly. They must defend themselves against attacks initiated by other agents, and survive in potentially malicious environments. Agent technology can also be used to support network security. For example in the context of intrusion detection, intelligent guardian agents may be used to implement active protection strategies on a firewall or intelligent monitoring agents can be used to analyse the behaviour of agents migrating through a network. Part of the inspiration for such multi-agent systems comes from primitive animal behaviour, such as that of guardian ants protecting their hill or from biological immune systems. Topics of Interest - ------------------ We welcome the submission of papers from the full spectrum of issues associated with security in mobile multiagent systems, both in the public Internet and in private networks. We particularly encourage the discussion of the following topics: - - security policies for agent environments - - security mechanisms that can be implemented by using (mobile) multiple agents - - reasoning about security in an agent architecture - - security for agents (against other agents, malicious hosts, and software failures) - - security for agent hosts (against agent attacks and agent deficiency) - - security through agents (for any form of malfunctioning in the network) - - application of security mechanism in a (mobile) multiagent context - - integration of traditional security mechanisms to the agent realm - - design methodologies for secure (mobile) multiagent systems The workshop aims at bringing together people from the two relevant research fields, information security and agent-oriented programming.
