#### Politics #### ## Curfews have been lifted in D.C. andL.A. county. The violence is dying down, and the four officers beingcharged seem to have had an effect. Was there also an effect from theNational guard? #Jim Craig, an associate professor ofmilitary and veteran studies in relation to the Ferguson civildistress in 2014 said, “calling out the national guard for a floodis one thing, calling out the national guard for riots and unrestmoves say into the extreme.” https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/18/what-is-national-guard-fergus… #So let’s not discount the extremenature of what has just happened and also the fact that it has becomeobviously much more common since many states deployed the nationguard this last week. #As of June 2, 23 states activated theNational Guard in reaction to the riots, 17,000 of them on Mondaymorning. 45,000 have already been activated in response to the Covidcrisis. That means about 66,700 National Guard personnel are activeright now in all 50 states. This is multiples of the amount ofactive-duty troops in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. https://www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2020/06/02/which-us-states-have-… ##Even though things seem to have been dying down and staying peacefulPortland is still dealing with violence as they have a large ANTIFAto citizen ratio, and some rioters abroad have begun to express theirsolidarity with the American rioters by rioting themselves. Greekdemonstrators as the most extravagant of them all threw Molotov cocktails towards the U.S. embassy in Athens. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-minneapolis-police-protests-greece/greek… ## Nolonger are the protests for justice for George Floyd as that seems tobe well on its way, but the riots are now against white superiority and police brutality. ##This is good, more or less, it’s undoubtedly something that needs tobe addressed. But what comes to mind is Killer Mike’s speech inAtlanta a few days ago. We need to be beating our opposition up in thevoting booth. By putting the the politicians you want into the jobswhere they can make a difference there’s a big chance of changingsome things. But right now the rioters are trying to kill wasps witha shotgun, it’s not going to work, they’re going to cause a lotof damage, and get themselves hurt in the process. Dealing with waspsproperly is going to take more time and effort but will be much moreeffective. ...Whichleads me to, another success in this saga: ## Defund the Police ## NYC Comptroller Wants $1.1B cut fromthe NYPD #The cut is supposed to happen over thenext four years in order to aid “vulnerable communities mostimpacted by police violence and structural racism.” #The plan: $265M annually by reducingheadcount through attrition, suspending hiring of new police classes, and scaling back overtime. According to statement from ScottStringer. https://comptroller.nyc.gov/newsroom/comptroller-stringer-to-mayor-de-blasi… #The 1.1B cut is a %19 reduction in the overall budget for the NYPD ## So that’s a win! Or, is it just aconsolation prize? Like we talked about there is a substantial amountof National guard deployed right now. I realize that many of thepeople in the national guard are average citizens on reserve, butthis feels close to martial law! Maybe governors of all the statesare realizing how easy it is to deploy the National Guard reservesduring a crisis and therefore don’t feel the need to have policefunded? This is a major speculation and as I’m sure the NYCcomptroller and Governor Cuomo know each other but it’s a long shotthat they are colluding. ## Never the less, I am alwayssuspicious when the government “cuts back” and ask myself, arethey really cutting back or are they just moving power and influenceform the front-end to the back-end in order to save face but retaincontrol. ## If it is in good faith, is it reallythe most effective route to take? Right now it probably is for manyreasons, the least of them not being that of calming down the angrypeople and showing them that the government cares. But I feel there’smore of a change in the way of a spiritual revolution that could beof a larger benefit. ## Nicolo Machiavelli’s eighth ruleof war: Discipline in war counts more than fury. https://warontherocks.com/2014/08/machiavellis-27-rules-of-war/ ## “Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime.” - Aristotle #### Covid #### ## NYC hits zero confirmed covid deathsfor first day since march #NYC hit it’s peak death rate onApril 7 https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavirus/ny-coronavirus-deaths-confirmed-cov… ## The fact is that this pandemic hasbeen bad, but not as bad as we expected. ## Another 1.9 million have filed forunemployment, the ninth week of that number declining but still amassive ammount of unemployed. Still more unemployed than during thegreat depression. https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavirus/ny-coronavirus-nyc-us-world-updates… #### Crypto #### ## MakerDAO weighs accepting real-worldassets as crypto loan collateral. #Another step towards more robustdecentralized financial services, one of the most promising ideas inthe cryptocurrency space. https://www.coindesk.com/makerdao-weighs-accepting-real-world-assets-as-cry… #With decentralized financial serviceseveryone with an internet connection can take advantage of the samemethods that the ultra rich use in order to protect their wealth. #That is, creating liquidity fromnonliquid assets and therefore adding a layer of protection frominflation (among other things.) #Why do you think that the ultrawealthy buy painting for hundreds of millions of dollars? It’s avery slowly appreciating thing and is difficult to take care of.First of all it’s definitely insured so they can recoup much ofthat cost, but it’s also very easy to put that up as collateral andopen a line of credit with a bank that cost them about 1% ininterest. So they do in fact use the money to purchase the paintingbut in a roundabout way make it possible to take that money back outfrom the investment without actually selling the asset itself. #Projects like Celsius and MakerDAO dothe exact same thing but with cryptocurrency. It requires no creditrating, little KYC, and your loan comes to you with about a 1%interest rate. #The advancement of Non-fungibletokens, which is what powers crypto kitties, is what will be able toact as lesson between your real world assets and the loan that youtake out (in a USD-pegged stable coin, by the way.) #Goes to show that most technologicaladvancements become applied to at worst borderline nonsensicalprojects and at best fun things to do before they go on topotentially change the entire world as we know it. #This is a big deal that could makeMakerDAO a lot of money and enable the common people to takeadvantage of financial services that are currently reserved for thewealthy and well-connected.

CFP IEEE DependSys 2020: The 6th IEEE International Conference on Dependability in Sensor, Cloud, and Big Data Systems and Applications
by Jun Feng 05 Jun '20

05 Jun '20

[Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message] Call For Papers ============================================================================= The 6th IEEE International Conference on Dependability in Sensor, Cloud, and Big Data Systems and Applications (IEEE DependSys 2020) 14-16 December 2020, Fiji http://cse.stfx.ca/~dependsys/2020/index.html DependSys 2020 conference is the 6th event in the series of conferences which offers a timely venue for bringing together new ideas, techniques, and solutions for dependability and its issues in sensor, cloud, and big data systems and applications. As we are deep into the Information Age, huge amounts of data are generated every day from sensors, individual archives, social networks, Internet of Things, enterprises and Internet in various scales and format which will pose a major challenge to the dependability of our designed systems. As these systems often tend to become inert, fragile, and vulnerable after a period of running. Effectively improving the dependability of sensor, cloud, big data systems and applications has become increasingly critical. This conference provides a forum for individuals, academics, practitioners, and organizations who are developing or procuring sophisticated computer systems on whose dependability of services they need to place great confidence. Future systems need to close the dependability gap in face of challenges in different circumstances. The emphasis will be on differing properties of such services, e.g., continuity, effective performance, real-time responsiveness, ability to overcome data fault, corruption, anomaly, ability to avoid catastrophic failures, prevention of deliberate privacy intrusions, reliability, availability, sustainability, adaptability, heterogeneity, security, safety, and so on. ============================================================================= All accepted papers will be published by IEEE Computer Society Press (indexed by EI). Correction, James 'Mad Poodle' Mattis actually "quit in protest over US’ Syria withdrawal" (see rt.com article gbelow). IOW, the Mad Poodle is a quitter where Peace and 'less imperialism' is sought. Not only that, Mattis is a quitter. That man, is a quitter. Did I mention he's a quitter? Because he's also the new hero of the Democratic Demon-rat-tick party for calling Trump a Nazi (now -that- was a truly original and knockout slur, Mr Mattis). So, quitters know how to quit, and Jim "Mad Dog" Mattis, it appears, is a quitter. Ya know, that's quite a legacy, to be a quitter. For an American general to quit on 'American nationalism' because the pouting quitter wanted more imperialism, well, that just about sums up the existential crisis America faces today :/ At least Trump knows that we Ozzies (as it's pronounced) or Aussies as it's properly spelt, or even Ossies as it's usually pronounced by North Americans, are no quitters - in fact, at least historically and to date, we, are your, greatest ally. And besides, we ain't quitters to our allys. Dems cheer Mattis after he compares Trump to Hitler, conveniently forgetting he quit in protest over US’ Syria withdrawal https://www.rt.com/usa/490700-mattis-denounce-trump-democrats/ US President Donald Trump’s first defense secretary, General Jim Mattis, is the new hero of the Democrats, after he denounced Trump as a threat to the Constitution and compared him to the Nazis. ... -------------------------- James "Mad Poodle" Mattis, the ultra "liberal" (read 'Democrat') former defense secretary under Trump, comes out against the constitution whilst claiming Trump is against the constitution, whilst it is actually Trump calling all upstanding men (and Women :) ), to literally "save your great 2nd Amendment" - here it is: LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege! 8:25 AM - 17 Apr 2020 Donald J. Trump Verified Account @realDonaldTrump https://mobile.twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1251169987110330372 So Mad Poodle is in fact using his Ministry speak to turn words upside down and to pretend black is white. What is Mattis' "blistering" statement? : “I have watched this week’s unfolding events, angry and appalled, The words ‘Equal Justice Under Law’ are carved in the pediment of the United States Supreme Court. This is precisely what protesters are rightly demanding. It is a wholesome and unifying demand — one that all of us should be able to get behind. We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers” Oh, so nothing, evidently. <shrug> Obviously "Mad Doggy Mattis" has absolutely no grudges whatsoever for being fired by Trump. 'We Can Unite Without Him': Former Defense Secretary Slams Trump as Threat to US Constitution https://sputniknews.com/us/202006031079511901-we-can-unite-without-him-form… .. “Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people — does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us. We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children," Mattis added. He also contrasted the Nazi ideology to Americans values of unity and cooperation. “Instructions given by the military departments to our troops before the Normandy invasion reminded soldiers that ‘The Nazi slogan for destroying us … was "Divide and Conquer." ... IOW, literally "please, think of the children", and "evil Nazis" :D On Wed, Jun 03, 2020 at 05:50:56PM +1000, Zenaan Harkness wrote: > Folks this is some serious inspiration on the rise - when a few good > men stand, often that's enough, and often a few more good men join > them, and then here and there we are seeing literally 100s of good > folks getting out to join the corageous initial few good men, and > standing in solidarity and protecting their towns. > > >From Texas to Idaho, it's time to celebrate if you've stood already in > the right, and time to man up and live the right if the turoil is yet > to hit your town. > > Live the right muh grits! Who is GovCorpSecretServiceMafia?
by Karl 04 Jun '20

04 Jun '20

Hi, The targeting, disruption, etc are painful and "obvious". I was wondering if, maybe from back when they didn't have so much power on the internet, anybody figured out what kinds of people are causing it. How they work, what they value, maybe even who they are, etc. Obviously control is important but those seem more like strategies to sustain something else. Did a map of these influences ever make it somewhere permanent? I'm realizing that although we could make a new one, the process could be pretty dangerous. It just really helps comprehending anything at all to know why these things are happening, and be able to talk about it specifically even if that means repercussions when you do. Karl

How to protect a town - "your great second amendment" - folks living their rights - AWESOME results! :D
by Zenaan Harkness 04 Jun '20

04 Jun '20

Folks this is some serious inspiration on the rise - when a few good men stand, often that's enough, and often a few more good men join them, and then here and there we are seeing literally 100s of good folks getting out to join the corageous initial few good men, and standing in solidarity and protecting their towns. >From Texas to Idaho, it's time to celebrate if you've stood already in the right, and time to man up and live the right if the turoil is yet to hit your town. Live the right muh grits! Yee haw :D Fantastic times all - join in and experience the feelings of liberation. Idaho Town Taken Over By Armed 'Patriot' Patrols Amid Rumors Antifa Headed There https://www.zerohedge.com/political/idaho-town-taken-over-armed-patriot-pat… .. "Reports and rumors that groups bent on rioting and violence in Coeur d’Alene brought out men and women with guns on Monday determined to stop them if they arrive," local Idaho media reported. https://cdapress.com/news/2020/jun/02/armed-patriots-patrol-coeur-dalene-5/ "Dan Carson was patrolling Sherman Avenue with an AR-12 automatic 12-gauge across his chest, an AR-15 strapped to his back, two 9mm handguns holstered and a .38 special, too," the report continued. Groups of loosely affiliated 'Proud Boys' and armed 'patriots' began lining the streets of downtown Coeur d’Alene over reports left wing militants and Antifa anarchists were planning to cause mayhem in the area: Soon, more armed men, self-described as a loosely formed group of patriots, arrived. They took up posts at corners on both sides of Sherman Avenue. Later, they were joined by hundreds of citizens packing rifles, semi-automatic weapons, handguns, and bows and arrows. The sidewalks were packed with people walking up and down Sherman Avenue, firearms proudly displayed for all to see. They carried guns, had them holstered around their hips and had them strapped across their backs. https://t.co/9kMcX8WgMS — Maher Kawash (@MaherKXLY) June 2, 2020 https://twitter.com/MaherKXLY/status/1267668615018377216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw As it turns out, a group of Black Lives Matter protesters did in parts of the city briefly face off with the 'protect Idaho' group of armed locals, however, the scene stayed peaceful and without incident, dispersing relatively early into the evening as the police monitored the situation. Ultimately it appeared that in the downtown area it was only the armed patriot group which was out in force, unopposed. But the armed citizens patrols were in such large numbers they effectively took over the streets. Our beautiful home sweet home of North Idaho!! Zoom Video Conferencing - Completely Untrustable, Falls to Government Surveillance Demands, keybase

Now Zoom removes all guise of crypto from free unpaid (anon) calls presumably due to Government pressure to surveillance spy the fuck out of Zoom's users, which it is giving away free to ensnare millions of more unwitting users worldwide. Expect any strong crypto services at keybase to get backdoored and wrecked over the next few years too. "for sure, we don’t want to give that [end-to-end encryption]." --Eric Yuan (Chinese National re any programmed favor spy regimes), meme rt by Alex Stamos (affil Google Facebook etc spy corps) Zoom has been criticized for "security lapses and poor design choices" that have resulted in heightened scrutiny of its software.[52][13] The company has also been criticized for its privacy and corporate data sharing policies.[53][54][55] Security researchers and reporters have criticized the company for its lack of transparency and poor encryption practices. Zoom initially claimed to use "end-to-end encryption" in its marketing materials,[56] but later clarified it meant "from Zoom end point to Zoom end point" (meaning effectively between Zoom servers and Zoom clients), which The Intercept described as misleading and "dishonest".[57] The video conferencing company boasts about end-to-end encryption on its website, and in a separate security-related white paper. However, The Intercept’s report found that the service uses transport encryption instead. In March 2020, New York State Attorney General Letitia James launched an inquiry into Zoom's privacy and security practices.[58] In April 2020, Citizen Lab researchers discovered that a single, server-generated AES-128 key is being shared between all participants in ECB mode, which is deprecated due to its pattern-preserving characteristics of the ciphertext.[66] During test calls between participants in Canada and United States the key was provisioned from servers located in mainland China where they are subject to the China Internet Security Law.[17] ...
