https://www.google.com/search?q=a+small+team+of+a%2B+players+steve+jobs&oq=… lieved that "a small team of A+ players can run circles around a giant team of B and C players". This highlights his focus on hiring exceptional individuals who take initiative, create new value, and can "own entire markets," rather than relying on a large team of average performers. He valued recruiting as the most important thing he did, emphasizing that major work requires exceptional people. Here's a breakdown of what this quote and Jobs' approach imply: Quality over Quantity: Jobs prioritized hiring individuals with high potential and capabilities, rather than simply having a large workforce. A+ Players: These are individuals who are not just skilled but also proactive, resourceful, and capable of going above and beyond. Culture Fit: Jobs believed in hiring people who fit the company's culture and values. Promoting Excellence: He also emphasized promoting individuals who demonstrate the right attributes and are willing to improve themselves. Importance of Team: Jobs also believed that the most important product he'd ever made was the team.

The "sugar water" phrase is often attributed to Steve Jobs in connection with his recruitment of John Sculley to be the CEO of Apple in 1983. Jobs famously asked Sculley: "Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to change the world?".

https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/170791-making-your-mark-on-the-world-is-ha… The "sugar water" phrase is often attributed to Steve Jobs in connection with his recruitment of John Sculley to be the CEO of Apple in 1983. Jobs famously asked Sculley: "Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life, or do you want to change the world?". Elaboration: The Context: Steve Jobs was a co-founder of Apple, but he was not initially the CEO. Apple needed a more experienced business leader, and Jobs turned to John Sculley, the CEO of PepsiCo. The Offer: When Jobs offered Sculley the position, he framed the choice in a way that highlighted the potential for impact and innovation at Apple versus the more routine work of selling soft drinks at Pepsi. The Metaphor: "Selling sugar water" was a metaphor for a job that was seen as mundane and lacking in ambition or potential for significant change. Sculley's Decision: Sculley ultimately chose to join Apple, and Jobs saw this as a validation of Apple's potential to transform the world.
