Smart TV Sets: Owning You Remotely Over The Airwaves

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/about-90-percent-of-smart-tv… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOJ_8QHX6OA A new attack on smart TVs allows a malicious actor to take over devices using rogue DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting -- Terrestrial) signals, get root access on the smart TV, and use the device to spy on end users. The attack, developed by Rafael Scheel, a security researcher working for Swiss cyber security consulting company Oneconsult, is unique and much more dangerous than previous smart TV hacks because the attacker can execute it from a remote location, without user interaction, and runs in the TV's background processes, meaning users won't notice when an attacker compromises their TVs. "about 90% of the TVs sold in the last years are potential victims of similar attacks, "At the center of Scheel's attack is Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV), TV transmission signal technologies like DVB-T, DVB-C, or IPTV all support HbbTV. Scheel says that anyone can set up a custom DVB-T transmitter with equipment priced between $50-$150, and start broadcasting a DVB-T signal. Re: How to make Cypherpunks a Safe Space - aka, the art of the feels

It's really funny of course, but also sad. Americans (I'm assuming jnn is a yank) had an awesome foundation notwithstanding its foibles, yet have been so dumbed down in their education, so vaccinated at such an early age (before blood brain barriers are grown) causing IQs to drop significantly, across the board, and "every child must get a AA gold star, regardless of actual capacity". To use the politically incorrect term, "for my fellow White brothers across the pond", this is really, really sad. The fact that even sarcasm is not read as it is, (not able to be heard?), or that the primary response is to use such an email an assertion of weakness on the part of the author, is again, just sad. Humans bitching about one another, to no end, and to no benefit to anything. Well, it's no wonder the Western empire is about to fall... You know, a very good friend of mine, involved in many human rights rallies here in Australia once pointed out (to a "hell yeah" response) that his greatest opposition was never the police, never the courts, not even the government - for those who try to help humans/ society at a grass roots level, our greatest opposition is always the humans themselves - sabotage from within, by petty-Nazis, those micro dictators who only ever see the speck in their brothers' eye, assuming that any reduction in their own personal power (e.g. to hand over disputed decisions or payments to the whole broader group for example) must be opposed to the death, because "I is committee, muh personal power is king" .. or something. In those immortal words of Trump - so sad. jnn, railing against windmills, making declarations of hilarity and stupidity, fingers fimly planted in his ears, unwilling to engage the facts of any debate he wildly asserts his pronounciations upon. How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Russia

** How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Russia http://russia-insider.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=fa2faf7034c3c3c413c… ------------------------------------------------------------ by Paul Goncharoff on Wed, Mar 29, 2017 Editor's Note: This is a truly insightful and entertaining firsthand account of Russia through the eyes of someone who, like so many of us, was brought up to loathe the "Russkies". Find a comfortable chair, pour yourself a drink, and enjoy! As a native New Yorker, brought up in the 1950s and 60s, I damn well knew what those Russkies were; pinkos, spies, commissars and worse! At public school I regularly had to squat under my desk while the nuclear attack alarms went off, all the while our homeroom teacher barked at us to make sure our eyes were closed and our faces turned away from the windows. All that bother because the communists were especially intent on turning our school into a thermonuclear barbeque. This is a harsh indictment against the USA, assuming true: ** Russian General: US Trying to Destroy Syria's Critical Infrastructure http://russia-insider.us9.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=fa2faf7034c3c3c413… ------------------------------------------------------------ by RI Staff on Wed, Mar 29, 2017 Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoi of the Russian military's General Staff said on Tuesday that U.S.-led coalition airstrikes were intentionally targeting critical infrastructure in Syria — which could lead to major ecological and humanitarian catastrophes. According to General Rudskoi, [The U.S.-led coalition is] trying to “completely destroy critical infrastructure in Syria and complicate post-war reconstruction as much as possible.” ** US Proxies Set Stage for Syria Balkanization http://russia-insider.us9.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=fa2faf7034c3c3c413… ------------------------------------------------------------ by Matthew Allen on Wed, Mar 29, 2017 A leading Kurdish politician has confirmed that "the northern Syrian city of Raqqa is expected to join a decentralized system of government being set up by Syrian Kurdish groups and their allies once it is freed from Islamic State," according to Reuters. Saleh Muslim, the co-chair of the Syrian Kurdish PYD party, made his comments on the same day that a U.S.-led operation near Raqqa blocked "any advance by Syrian government forces from the west". In other words, the U.S. has reserved Raqqa for its proxies. ** Russian Air Force Achieves New High Score in Al-Qaeda Whack-a-Mole http://russia-insider.us9.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=fa2faf7034c3c3c413… ------------------------------------------------------------ by RI Staff on Wed, Mar 29, 2017 Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), "al-Qaeda's latest incarnation in Syria", has spent the last week dodging Russian and Syrian airstrikes near Hama. It wasn't supposed to be this way. The coalition of head-choppers had assembled an army of 10,000 fanatics to storm Hama and turn it into a "moderate" paradise. But they forgot about "Russian meddling".

Ukraine state collapse imminent - Russia receives $3billion summary judgement from UK High Court
by Zenaan Harkness 29 Mar '17

29 Mar '17

A significant moment in legal/ geopolitical time just happened. The Ukraine "state" (or rather, what's left of it after Crimeans voted peacefully for secession) is now all but certain, and no more than a few short months away, at most. Foreign governments, banks and investors who bought up Ukraine "IMF not backed" debt on the cheap (i.e. at high interest rates) hoping for CIA business as usual (and presumably surprised at the Trump win and the changes this is steadily bringing), are set to loose many billions of their investment fiats. The IMF will all but certainly stick to its rules this time re Russian sovereign debt with Ukraine, rather than (as it did last year) change those rules to give wiggle room to screw Russia over. Western vaseline supplies have nearly run out, to the West's dismay, but to the grateful awareness of the multi polar phoenix rising. A good day for those who pine for some justice on the world stage. https://arstechnica.com/science/2017/03/us-wind-capacity-surpasses-hydro-ov… http://www.eia.gov/electricity/data/browser/ In the US, a number of major milestones occurred on the electric grid in 2016, almost all of them involving wind power. Now the Energy Information Administration is confirming that's because of a big overall trend: wind power is now the largest source of renewable energy generating capacity, passing hydroelectric power in 2016. And since the two sources produce electricity at nearly the same rate, we'll soon see wind surpass hydro in terms of electricity produced. ......
