Fwd: [NATURAL_DEFENCE] US Military Out of Control
by grarpamp 02 Nov '17

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: ECOTERRA Intl. <office(a)ecoterra-international.org> Date: Sun, Oct 29, 2017 at 8:16 AM Subject: [NATURAL_DEFENCE] US Military Out of Control To: MAILHUB <mailhub(a)ecoterra.net> NO OVERSIGHT AND OUT OF CONTROL: USAmerican Military just does what it wants - worldwide. The New York Times notes that the U.S. now has “over 240,000 active-duty and reserve troops in at least 172 countries and territories.” Count it again: In 172 countries, out of 193 UN member states (the UN knows it - but not the US Senate). Senators ‘Stunned’ To Learn US Has 1,000 Ground Troops In Niger Senate Armed Services Committee members confirmed they had no idea that the U.S. had upwards of 1,000 ground troops operating inside Niger. By Jason Ditz | Antiwar.com - October 25th, 2017 With Pentagon officials offering the first details on the Niger ambush incident, they also revealed details about the ongoing U.S. war in Niger, including the revelation that there is an ongoing U.S. war in Niger. Nobody seems to have known about it. Especially not those whose job it is to know. Senate Armed Services Committee members confirmed they were “stunned” by the revelation, and had no idea that the U.S. had upwards of 1,000 ground troops operating inside Niger. ________________________________ PICTURE | In this image provided by the U.S. Army, a carry team of soldiers from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), carry the transfer case during a casualty return for Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, of Lyons, Ga., at Dover Air Force Base, Del., Oct. 5, 2017. U.S. and Niger forces were ambushed on Oct. 4 and Wright and three other soldiers were killed. (Pfc. Lane Hiser/U.S. Army via AP) ________________________________ Gen. Joe Dunford presented this military operation as being targeted at an ISIS affiliate inside Niger, and the suggestion is that the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) in Afghanistan is serving as the legal justification. Perennial hawk Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) expressed comfort with this, saying it is the military’s job to decide who the enemy is, and Congress could defund the war if they objected. This is both not the way US wars are supposed to be launched, and obviously a problem since Congress didn’t even know the war was going on. This is adding to the push to repeal the AUMF as well, or to replace it with something more specific that at the very least wouldn’t be used 16 years after the fact to start a war without telling anyone about it. Officially, where US troops are deployed is supposed to be a matter of public record, though the Trump Administration has been increasingly averse to doing so with any precision, and the most recent figures show over 27,000 US troops deployed overseas to unspecified locations. --- Related | Dying (and Killing) For The Empire Is Not Heroic A U.S. Soldier Died In Niger. Nothing To Hide: A Surveillance Thoughtumentary
by grarpamp 31 Oct '17

31 Oct '17

Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv3qSfKjCPI https://vimeo.com/185535526 Full Movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3mQu9YQesk https://vimeo.com/189016018 https://vimeo.com/nothingtohide Created by Marc Meillassoux In English, Spanish, French, German. A fine film, pass it on. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1587081065/nothing-to-hide-the-documen… https://www.facebook.com/Nothing-to-Hide-Documentary-Film-666963573432713 https://twitter.com/Nothin_to_Hide https://blogs.mediapart.fr/nothing-hide-documentaire https://nothingtohidedoc.wordpress.com/ https://leetchi.com/c/project-nothing-to-hide This documentary questions the growing, puzzling and passive public acceptance of massive corporate and governmental incursions into individual and group privacy and rights. If you think you have "nothing to hide", you are at the right place. We are convinced this film is about everyone. Meeting at events in Berlin, we decided to team up and tackle what is often left out in the surveillance debate. Whereas many post-Snowden reports focus on technical or more abstract aspects of Big Data, we expose its sociological impact, something we all struggle to understand going about our daily lives. The NOTHING TO HIDE argument has not yet been investigated. Ignoring this question does not allow us to answer another: What kind of society are we building for ourselves and future generations? What does it say about us and our societies when we embrace the NOTHING TO HIDE justification? Learn to fly...! Related... https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/search?q=nothing+to+hide
