This is our new battleground," Guardian, October 15, 2019, https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/oct/15/encryption-lose-priva… Why is Ed selling end-to-end crypt as the guarantor of privacy when there's a whole industry (e.g. NSO Group) based on bypassing crypto with 0-days? What better way to pilfer secrets than to channel gullible users to platforms which they think will keep them safe... Good Afternoon General Nakasone!

[gilmay97@gmail.com: YouTube, Google, Facebook and Vimeo are complicit in the massive poliooutbreak cover-up: It’s all caused by vaccines]
by Zenaan Harkness 16 Oct '19

>From the untested vaccines on brown children first "and anyway, trust us, these are the modern SAFE vaccines" dept: ----- Forwarded message from Gil May <gilmay97(a)gmail.com> ----- From: Gil May <gilmay97(a)gmail.com> Date: Wed, 16 Oct 2019 12:55:49 +1000 Subject: YouTube, Google, Facebook and Vimeo are complicit in the massive poliooutbreak cover-up: It’s all caused by vaccines YouTube, Google, Facebook and Vimeo are complicit in the massive polio outbreak cover-up: It’s all caused by vaccines For the first time in almost two decades, the Philippines is experiencing a major polio outbreak, and authorities admit <https://www.abc27.com/health/philippines-declares-new-polio-outbreak-after-…> that polio vaccines are to blame. But Big Tech continues to de-platform or otherwise silence users who try to share this pertinent information online, which is endangering public health all around the globe. *Natural News*, as you may recall, has repeatedly been targeted by Facebook and other platforms simply for telling the truth about how vaccines have the potential to infect people with the very diseases against which they’re being vaccinated. Well, now the World Health Organization (WHO) is issuing <https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-10-09-who-admits-polio-outbreak-caused-by-…> the same warning, so what’s next? Will the WHO be banned from Facebook or removed from Google searches for daring to in any way implicate vaccines as a cause of disease? Or is censorship exclusively reserved for the independent media, which are the only entities brave enough to counter the fictitious narratives constantly being spread by Big Pharma? By barring internet users from accessing any information other than glowing praise for the vaccine agenda, the tech cabal is complicit in a massive cover-up that’s endangering the lives of children, both here in the United States and abroad. “In truth, nearly all the cases of polio in the modern world are caused by polio vaccines themselves,” warns Mike Adams, the Health Ranger. “Stated plainly, more cases of polio are caused by polio vaccines than from wild polio.” For more related news about the vaccine fraud, be sure to check out Vaccines.news <http://vaccines.news/>. *Why are “health authorities” allowed to occasionally tell the truth, but never the independent media?* The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is also <https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-10-10-who-unicef-admit-polio-outbreaks-cau…> now sounding the alarm about vaccine-induced illness, warning that polio vaccines have the potential to infect people with polio. But if you say the very same thing on your Vimeo account, you can expect to be shadow-banned or removed from the platform entirely. It’s a strange dichotomy where everyday people are not allowed to say things online that are “off-script” from the globalist narrative. But when the globalists themselves decide to spill the beans, even subtly, the mainstream media reports it matter-of-factly as if there’s nothing to see here, so just move right along, now. What this all proves, of course, is that the mainstream media is in cahoots with mainstream medicine, parroting its lies and censoring the truth as it suits the agenda – even when children’s lives are put at risk. “Vaccines kill or maim millions of children around the world each year, yet any journalist who investigates the toxicity of vaccine ingredients or the science fraud behind vaccine propaganda is immediately banned from all major tech platforms, including Google, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest and even Vimeo,” Adams explains. “No facts about vaccines are allowed to be shared or discussed. The corrupt, criminally-operated vaccine industry controls the narrative across all tech giants – including Wikipedia – as well as Hollywood, universities and medical journals,” he adds. There’s one word that perfectly describes all of this, and that word is *fascism*. Ironically, the “anti-fascist” leftists who insist upon scrapping the First Amendment to “protect the children” are the same leftists engaging in online fascism against vaccine truth-tellers. We will continue to spread the truth regardless of what Big Tech says or does, but it’s important to identify this hypocrisy and make it known. It’s the only way that free speech even has a chance in this age of institutionalized lies, and the tyranny that goes along with it. ----- End forwarded message -----

Snowden on CryptoPrivacy re US-UK-AUS Facebook Crypto Slapdown

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/oct/15/encryption-lose-priva… https://it.slashdot.org/story/19/10/15/1359231/edward-snowden-without-encry… https://i.redd.it/855lzz700fs31.png In the midst of the greatest computer security crisis in history, the US government, along with the governments of the UK and Australia, is attempting to undermine the only method that currently exists for reliably protecting the world's information: encryption. Should they succeed in their quest to undermine encryption, our public infrastructure and private lives will be rendered permanently unsafe. [...] Earlier this month the US, alongside the UK and Australia, called on Facebook to create a "backdoor," or fatal flaw, into its encrypted messaging apps, which would allow anyone with the key to that backdoor unlimited access to private communications. So far, Facebook has resisted this. Donald Trump's attorney general, William Barr, who authorised one of the earliest mass surveillance programmes without reviewing whether it was legal, is now signalling an intention to halt -- or even roll back -- the progress of the last six years. WhatsApp, the messaging service owned by Facebook, already uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE): in March the company announced its intention to incorporate E2EE into its other messaging apps -- Facebook Messenger and Instagram -- as well. Now Barr is launching a public campaign to prevent Facebook from climbing this next rung on the ladder of digital security. This began with an open letter co-signed by Barr, UK home secretary Priti Patel, Australia's minister for home affairs and the US secretary of homeland security, demanding Facebook abandon its encryption proposals. If Barr's campaign is successful, the communications of billions will remain frozen in a state of permanent insecurity: users will be vulnerable by design. And those communications will be vulnerable not only to investigators in the US, UK and Australia, but also to the intelligence agencies of China, Russia and Saudi Arabia -- not to mention hackers around the world. End-to-end encrypted communication systems are designed so that messages can be read only by the sender and their intended recipients, even if the encrypted -- meaning locked -- messages themselves are stored by an untrusted third party, for example, a social media company such as Facebook.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2019/10/10/system76-will-begin-… https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21216195 System76 will start taking pre-orders for both the Galago Pro and Darter Pro laptops. The systems will ship out later in October, and include the company's Coreboot-based open source firmware which was previously teased at the 2019 Open Source Firmware Conference. (Coreboot, formerly known as LinuxBIOS, is a software project aimed at replacing proprietary firmware found in most computers with a lightweight firmware designed to perform only the minimum number of tasks necessary to load and run a modern 32-bit or 64-bit operating system.) What's so great about ripping out the proprietary firmware included in machines like this and replacing it with an open alternative? To begin with, it's leaner. System76 claims that users can boot from power off to the desktop 29% faster with its Coreboot-based firmware. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21213897 https://github.com/dickmao/nnhackernews https://forum.dlang.org/ https://github.com/CyberShadow/DFeed https://bsdimp.blogspot.com/2019/07/the-pdp-7-where-unix-began.html

This is all a part of China’s social credit system that will take effect on Dec. 1st. After the law is in effect, Chinese citizens who want to have the internet installed at their houses or on their smartphones will be required to undergo a facial recognition process by Chinese authority to prove their identities, according to the new regulation. This is significant because now the Chinese government will use the internet to rate citizens based on their daily behavior online. Since 2015, Chinese citizens have been required to show their ID cards while applying for a landline or the internet. This new law is put in place to verify that the ID belongs to the person applying for services. The new law was published on the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) website and distributed to all Chinese telecom carriers on Sept. 27th, which includes three demands be met, Epoch Times reports. First, all telecom carriers must use facial recognition to test whether an applicant who applies for internet connection is the owner of the ID that they use since Dec. 1. At the same time, the carriers must test that the ID is genuine and valid. Second, all telecom carriers must upgrade their service’s terms and conditions and notify all their customers that they are not allowed to transfer or resell their cell phone SIM card to another person by the end of November 2019. Third, telecom carriers should help their customers to check whether there are cell phone or landline numbers that don’t belong to them but registered under their names since Dec. 1. For unidentified numbers, the telecom carries must investigate and close the lines immediately. This comes on the heels of another Chinese pilot program which allows citizens to pay for subway/train travel using just their facial biometrics as Activist Post reported. This new system also compensates elderly Chinese in the city of Shenzhen, China, with a free ride — if they pay with their face — providing incentives for using facial recognition technology. China is planning to merge its 170+ million security cameras with artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology to create a mega-surveillance state. This compounds with China’s “social credit system” that ranks citizens based on their behavior, and rewards or punishes depending on those scores. According to the latest report of U.S.-based market research firm IDC, China had spent $10.6 billion on video surveillance equipment in 2018. The firm adds that China’s spending is believed to reach $20.1 billion in 2023. A massive 64.3 percent of China’s spending in 2018 was spent solely for surveillance cameras. A worrying figure for the future of China. IDC reported on Jan. 30th that it predicted China would have 2.76 billion surveillance cameras installed in 2022. Already, China’s cities, classrooms and even restrooms are inundated with facial recognition technology. Inside classrooms, facial recognition technology monitors students and reports their actions to the teachers and parents. While to access the basic need of using toilet paper in a public bathroom China requires citizens to scan their face just to wipe their butt. If that wasn’t bad enough, Chinese scientists have recently developed an artificial intelligence (AI) enabled 500 megapixel cloud camera that’s capable of panoramic capture of an entire stadium with the ability to target a single individual in an instant, Global Times reported. The upgrade to facial recognition technology is developed by Shanghai-based Fudan University and Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Changchun, capital of Northeast China’s Jilin Province. Fudan University and Changchun Institute of Optics aren’t the first researchers to advance facial recognition. There is also Shanghai-based YITU Technology which has evolved the facial recognition industry by being able to identify a person within a matter of seconds from a database of people, even if only their partial face is visible, CNBC reported. The evolution of facial recognition technology is further documented by researchers at the University of Bradford have found that “facial recognition technology works even when only half a face is visible,” according to EurekAlert. China is quickly becoming Orwell’s worst nightmare, advancing its requirement and use of facial recognition technology. In protests, Hong Kong activists have begun shining laser pointers at facial recognition cameras to disrupt their function. Protesters have also taken additional measures, like spray painting camera lenses on the street or around government offices as Activist Post has reported. This latest crackdown now requiring internet users in China to register their faces if they want to use the service is a huge step in creating a dystopian society. The remaining obvious question is how long until this type of facial ID requirement spreads to the U.S. and EU? We do know that the U.S. has wanted an “Internet ID Act” for quite some time, according to Amie Stepanovich, national security counsel for the Electronic Privacy Information Center in Washington. The fact that this process could now include facial recognition thanks to China rolling it out first is a horrifying nightmarish thought — welcome to 1984. "

So, to those who actually value software freedom, there is only one relevant question right now: Is Richard Stallman speaking at this event? If not, I will NOT attend! I shall maintain this position for the rest of my life (I'm not yet 50). If YOU can't defend those who defend software freedom, you are a fraud and a hypocrite! Play the ball, not the man - you must handle all complaints with dignity, for all parties, especially those "accused".
