https://www.unknown.fund/ " Unknown Fund - Press Release 11/13/2019 We are going to invest and donate $75 million of bitcoin in startups that help anonymity ideas. Preferred niches are personal data protection, tools for online anonymity, cryptocurrencies, blockchain. Unknown Fund is Going to Invest and Donate $75 Million for the Development of Ideas of Anonymity The anonymous organisation Unknown Fund has announced that it intends to invest and donate $75 million in bitcoin to startups which directly or indirectly support the idea of anonymity. Preference will be given to the following niches: protection of personal data, tools for anonymity, cryptocurrency and blockchain. The organizers of the fund are ordinary, anonymous people from different countries who met on the 4chan English-language imageboard. In a brief to our news agency Anonymous said: “We are you, we are your sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends and colleagues. Our ranks consist of representatives of many countries and nationalities, united by a virtual comradely spirit and the belief that we are fighting for the good of many, and not for the benefit of some. Anonymous is the voice of those who believe in truth, freedom and the right to self-expression.” The Unknown Fund sees the protection of personal data as one of the main challenges for modern man. The use of data has already become a powerful tool for manipulating people. The effectiveness of this tool is both amazing and frightening. Using as examples the ultra-targeted advertising used in Brexit campaigns and in the last presidential elections in the United States, one can see how easy it is to manipulate public opinion with enough personal data. However, the manipulation of people occurs not only in big politics, but also in our daily lives. A perfect example is the level of addiction that the general population has to social networks - addiction orchestrated and achieved by corporations. Anonymous added: “Now the main goal of large corporations is to collect as much information as possible about the personal lives of people, and then use it for their enrichment. And they do a great job of it by making ordinary people get poorer. We are ready to fight for change and protect people." The Unknown Fund also sees incredible opportunities to protect the rights and freedoms of people that technology such as blockchain and cryptocurrencies give us. This is a chance for humanity to create a new environment, a new and honest monetary system, and to make the world a better place. Unknown Fund suggests investment in commercial startups and donations to nonprofit organizations. Investing is just the beginning. Anonymous have developed a number of strategies and methods that will be announced later. Anonymous ended the brief with the words: “If you believe in freedom of speech and the media, and most importantly, in a free and accessible Internet, then you are also Anonymous. Our opponents should not doubt our determination or conviction. We will continue to fight as much as necessary to achieve our goal.” "

...2011 documentary by adam curtis. Turns out that levine's 'surveillance valley" has been 'inspired' by it to the point that parts of the book are pretty much identical to parts of the vidoes...aka plagiarism. anyway, curti's film has a few glitches but it's worth watching

> I suggest you go to a library and read a fair amount of liberal(now 'libertarian') authors. I can provide you a reading list... Probably more useful if people post their suggested reading lists in a separate ongoing thread like this one so other people can easily find and refer to them. Post away...

Cryptocurrency is game changing virus, Virgil brought a Trojan Horse full of it straight into one of the many halls of power. So did Meltem, Andreas, and many more... No one in those halls will ban distributed privacy cryptocurrencies, because they want in the game, gold rush, and personal freedom that comes with adoption, at which point cryptocurrency wins. Still early days, stay agile, grab popcorn, enjoy the ride :) Here's one of the first of some more freedom oriented threads starting to appear on twitter and elsewhere on the subject... https://twitter.com/officialmcafee/status/1200540436391251968

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/evjekz/the-california-dmv-is-making-doll… Not to mention simply giving you away to all other agencies. And just where is your cut and brokering root of authority in this? Nope, it's ass up for you, and been going on for decades, you must enjoy it, you even told them where to come get more anytime they want. The California DMV Is Making $50M a Year Selling Drivers’ Personal Information A document obtained by Motherboard shows how DMVs sell people’s names, addresses, and other personal information to generate revenue. by Joseph Cox Nov 25 2019, 4:05pm The California Department of Motor Vehicles is generating revenue of $50,000,000 a year through selling drivers’ personal information, according to a DMV document obtained by Motherboard. DMVs across the country are selling data that drivers are required to provide to the organization in order to obtain a license. This information includes names, physical addresses, and car registration information. California’s sales come from a state which generally scrutinizes privacy to a higher degree than the rest of the country. In a public record acts request, Motherboard asked the California DMV for the total dollar amounts paid by commercial requesters of data for the past six years. The responsive document shows the total revenue in financial year 2013/14 as $41,562,735, before steadily climbing to $52,048,236 in the financial year 2017/18. The document doesn't name the commercial requesters, but some specific companies appeared frequently in Motherboard's earlier investigation that looked at DMVs across the country. They included data broker LexisNexis and consumer credit reporting agency Experian. Motherboard also found DMVs sold information to private investigators, including those who are hired to find out if a spouse is cheating. It is unclear if the California DMV has recently sold data to these sorts of entities. california-dmv-document A screenshot of the DMV document obtained by Motherboard. Image: Motherboard. In an email to Motherboard, the California DMV said that requesters may also include insurance companies, vehicle manufacturers, and prospective employers. Asked if the sale of this data was essential to the DMV, Marty Greenstein, public information officer at the California DMV, wrote that its sale furthers objectives related to highway and public safety, "including availability of insurance, risk assessment, vehicle safety recalls, traffic studies, emissions research, background checks, and for pre- and existing employment purposes." "The DMV takes its obligation to protect personal information very seriously. Information is only released pursuant to legislative direction, and the DMV continues to review its release practices to ensure information is only released to authorized persons/entities and only for authorized purposes. The DMV also audits requesters to ensure proper audit logs are maintained and that employees are trained in the protection of DMV information and anyone having access to this information sign a security document," Greenstein wrote. Do you know anything else about data selling? We'd love to hear from you. Using a non-work phone or computer, you can contact Joseph Cox securely on Signal on +44 20 8133 5190, Wickr on josephcox, OTR chat on jfcox(a)jabber.ccc.de, or email joseph.cox(a)vice.com. Multiple other DMVs around the U.S. previously confirmed to Motherboard that they have cut-off data access for some commercial requesters after they abused the data. One of the main pieces of legislation that governs the sale of DMV data stemmed from a case in California. Lawmakers introduced the Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) in 1994 after a private investigator hired by a stalker obtained the address of actress Rebecca Schaeffer from the DMV. The stalker went on to kill Schaeffer. The DPPA was designed to restrict access to DMV data, but included a wide array of exemptions, including for private investigators. After Motherboard's earlier investigation, senators and digital privacy experts criticized the sale of DMV data, and some said the law should be changed. Senator and Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said DMVs should not profit from such information.

appelbaum's CV and tor's résumé
by Punk-Stasi 2.0 29 Nov '19

http://web.archive.org/web/20150416180343/https://pando.com/2015/03/01/inte… In 2012, just a few months after Radio Free Asia’s 24/7 propaganda blitz into North Korea failed to trigger regime change, RFA sent folks from the Tor Project — including core developer Jacob Appelbaum (pictured above) — into Burma, just as the military dictatorship was finally agreeing to hand political power over to US-backed pro-democracy politicians. The stated purpose of Appelbaum’s RFA-funded expedition was to probe Burma’s Internet system from within and collect information on its telecommunications infrastructure — which was then used to compile a report for Western politicians and “international investors” interested in penetrating Burma’s recently opened markets. Here you can see Appelbaum’s visa — published in the report as evidence of what you needed to do to buy a SIM card in Burma. Burma is a curious place for American anti-surveillance activists funded by Radio Free Asia to travel to, considering that it has long been a target of US regime-change campaigns. In fact, the guru of pro-Western “color revolutions,” Gene Sharp, wrote his famous guide to non-violent revolutions, “From Dictatorship to Democracy”, initially as a guide for Burma’s opposition movement, in order to help it overthrow the military junta in the late 1980s. Sharp had crossed into Burma illegally to train opposition activists there — all under the protection and sponsorship of the US government and one Col. Robert Helvey, a military intelligence officer. Jacob Appelbaum’s willingness to work directly for an old CIA cutout like Radio Free Asia in a nation long targeted for regime-change is certainly odd, to say the least. Particularly since Appelbaum made a big public show recently claiming that, though it pains him that Tor takes so much money from the US military, he would never take money from something as evil as the CIA.

Bashar al Assad proposes to send Syrian troops to France - boots on the ground - [PEACE]
by Zenaan Harkness 28 Nov '19

28 Nov '19

Due to severe ongoing unrest in France, Syria's austere president Bashar al Assad has proposed sending a peace keeping contingent to the "haughty nation of cheese eaters" which is "unable to maintain peace on its streets, has murdered civilian protesters, and witnesses an ongoing 'democratic civilian' insurgency". Macron ribbitted out his opposition to the proposed Arab plan, calling for "his" citizens to display peace not protests on French streets, and ordered continual loudspeaker playings of "Rainbow Connection", which Marine le Pen immediately denounced as globalist homosexual propaganda and invited Bashar al Assad to "fk the fkn fkrs cause the fkn fkr's fkd". In all seriousness, Bashar al Assad has asked the media (presumably rhetorically) "Can you imagine our troops coming to France without invitation?" Amazing times... ‘Can you imagine our troops coming to France without invitation?’ Bashar Assad blasts French ‘occupation’ of Syria https://www.rt.com/news/474559-assad-france-occupation-syria/ ... France has joined the US-led anti-Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) coalition, providing air support and deploying special forces to Syria. But for Assad, the French intervention amounted to an “occupation,” as Paris – like its major NATO ally Washington – failed to secure Damascus’ authorization of the mission. ...
