On Crypto Anarchy and Cyber Liberty [Konstantinov re TCMay]

His peak work was in the 90s, but it hasn’t aged much, and the recent waves of blockchain popularity and interest make it all the fresher. Tim May has penned the highly influential [15]The Crypto Anarchist Manifesto in 1988 and coined the term “crypto anarchy”. I highly suggest that you read his essay [16]Crypto Anarchy and Virtual Communities, which is a fantastic piece printed back in 1994 and that is very prescient on a lot of points of what’s happening today. There’s a piece from the essay that I’d like to particularly dwell on that recounts how Tim May came up with the word “crypto anarchy” and what he meant by that: I devised the term crypto anarchy as a pun on crypto, meaning “hidden,” on the use of “crypto” in combination with political views (as in Gore Vidal’s famous charge to William F. Buckley: “You’re crypto fascist!”) and of course because the technology of crypto makes this form of anarchy possible. The first presentation of this term was in a 1988 “Manifesto,” whimsically patterned after another famous Crypto Anarchy and Virtual Communities manifesto. Perhaps a more popularly understandable term, such as “cyber liberty,” might have some advantages, but crypto anarchy has its own charm, I think. Cyber liberty. Think of the term “cyber liberty” as this is where I’d like to deviate a little from what’s elaborated upon in “Crypto Anarchy and Virtual Communities” and put it in the perspective of today. Whether we like it or not, the words anarchy and crypto anarchy can be a boogeyman to the general public, and Tim May went along with the term because he liked it but the “cyber liberty” one might be more fitting by his own admission. At its essence — and if you remove any emotion and the multitude of connotations that weight the word down — anarchy means that communities and community members can function in a highly conscious state. In a state in which they can freely cooperate and self-govern without the need of the government. Anarchy is not about actively getting rid of the government; it’s about operating as a tightly knit community. And yet the term “cyber liberty” is a better one and is extremely fitting today. With the spread of the mobile technology, mobile money has become not only popular and accessible but pretty much a necessity to a lot of people. Today, there are about [17]168 million active mobile money accounts worldwide, and the center of the active use is Africa. In Zimbabwe — to bring forth the most salient example — [18]96% of all transactions are the electronic mobile one. What happens is with the spread of technology — cheap smartphones as in the case with Africa — more and more people are joining the world economy and getting the means to cross the local boundaries. What would people in Zimbabwe use for money, when their national currency completely collapsed, were it not for the access to technology, and cheap access too? This is cyber liberty. Albeit a limited one, but liberty nonetheless. The advance and spread of the blockchain technology gives even more opportunities for people to go translocal and transborder. All that people need is a device, an Internet connection, and a willingness to learn. This is not to say that all three of these are easy to accomplish, but they are a possibility and they are opportunities. While mobile money is just that — a currency, even though a currency that’s convenient and even life-saving to some that also gives a taste of joining the world economy, the blockchain is the next step and the opportunities that come with it are truly fitting for the term “cyber liberty”. Imagine being able to generate content regardless of where you are and be paid for it. Imagine being able to grow your community and online presence and be rewarded for it. Imagine realizing that your attention is actually worth something. Think of what happens when it dawns on people that the effort of learning, exchanging information, and sharing the knowledge is what has a direct and inalienable value. The value that is also financial and all of it is a part of a vast ecosystem. No boundaries. Hassle free. You immediately gain by merely becoming a part of the world economy, and all you need for it is a device (not necessarily a powerful one), a connection, and a willingness to learn. This is what we do here at [19]U°Community, among other things. An easy way into becoming part of the economy and an understanding that you, your attention, your effort, and your drive are worth a lot. And your value is inalienable. This is cyber liberty. 15. https://www.activism.net/cypherpunk/crypto-anarchy.html 16. https://www.mun.ca/philosophy/JockeyOct6th.pdf 16. https://nakamotoinstitute.org/virtual-communities/ 16. http://shipwright.com/anarchy.html 17. https://www.gsma.com/mobilefordevelopment/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/GSMA_2… 18. https://itweb.africae-commerce/703-zimbabwe/242752-zimbabwe-96-of-total-tra… 19. https://u.community/ https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/754704850032019455/ https://old.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/9hpp5h/on_crypto_anarchy_a… https://old.reddit.com/r/uosnetwork/comments/9wowij/on_crypto_anarchy_and_c… https://old.reddit.com/r/GGCrypto/comments/9hr6r3/on_crypto_anarchy_and_cyb… https://old.reddit.com/r/uosnetwork/comments/aetj47/on_crypto_anarchy_and_c… https://u.today/zimbabwes-broken-economy-forces-country-to-be-a-cryptocurre…

Dougie Houser scribbled >>> But see, everybody knows he doesn't do anything. Maybe instead of him explaining how relatively minor figures don't meet his purity tests, he could set some positive goals and undertake the steps to meet them. <<< Dumbfuck - If you think antisemitism and Holocaust denial is just my purity test and Jim is some minor figure then I can't help you. And for the record I think spamming this list ought to rate as a general purity test. That means minor figures like Gramps and Semich are attackers. Your mileage clearly varies, Dougie - but then you've got " Masochist ' written all over your sorry eunuchs face.

How the mighty Gov-Corp have fallen - and this was predicted by Mike Huben decades ago - the USG would ' operate secretly '. As I said all this does it make it easier for us to kill them - but now - in the interests of allowing the fools a line of retreat - as described by Sun Tzu in ' The art of war "! - I proffer them this - they can collectively contribute to and announce a new Manhattan Project to bring on the Singularity in general and uploading in particular. And while we're waiting they can use up any petty cash paying a UBI to the financially submerged billions. What happens next could change the course of the war. https://www.theguardian.com/news/2022/sep/04/super-rich-prepper-bunkers-apo… Reposts caveat lecter

>>> the man who tried to kill you over and over again threatened to kill you.besides, <<< So I did more than just try to kill Jim Bell more than once but I threatened him as well? Sounds like I could be a suspect if he keels over like Mama Cass tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up. >>> this guy claims to be an anarchist ;he's a government Jewish propaganda agent. <<< Its true I have been paid by the Au govt since the dole was 10$ a week in 1970 and am circumcised and - though without informed consent - you could say I am a consenting Jew - at least in that department. And one of the first books I ever bought was ' Portnoys Complaint " - oy vey. The path of the righteous assassin is beset on all sides with evildoer's and temptations. Blessed is he who, in the name of anarchy and good will Shepherds the weak-brained through the valley of darkness For he is truly his Cluckin' Bell brother's keeper and the finder of lost property Now listen you crypto-fascist liars and haters, I will strike down With great vengeance and furious anger Those who attempt to poison and destroy my Cluckin' Bell brothers And you will know my name is abroad When I lay my vengeance on thee

>>> "the Left will kill you for your Right opportunism - but you claimed you knew this going in." Okay, I don't quite remember the conversation, it may have been years. But yes, everything seems to turn into a "political" dispute, especially these days. Every faction has its enthusiastic opponents. BTW, my references to quantum have nothing to do with politics:. It is just that for years, we have seen it said that quantum techniques may help break RSA. While that might not happen for a decade or longer, messages generated today may be recorded and vulnerable later. ('Venona') So there should be pressure to replace RSA with 'quantum resistant' algorithms. Fortunately, they exist or are being developed. <<< Your memory problems are becoming serious enough to warrant concern since this is not some personal spat or private squabble. Your own ' assassination politics ' describes how everyone - including the Left - will want to try and kill someone developing a turn-key, black box solution. Something you also describe as ' doable " So now you have forgotten your own stated political position to the extent that you encourage MSM type chatter about black box AP. Its right here in the archives. Jim Bell, the creator of AP, wants to talk-up encrypted-this and anonymized that and digital-cash bounties - the whole black-box thing! Now the alternative to that elitist, proof-of-work, bells-and-whistles AP is what? APster - Soft Drill - people power online all the time - the safe non-suicidally daangerous populist solution preferred by most anarchists. These two AP distro's represent Right ( Black Box ) and Left ( APster ) You swung hard right so it looks like you're ready to die. Oh well - it was fun while it lasted - but maybe you were only a fake anarchist all along? I defended you against ultra Fake, Tim May back in the day. He called you a ' SUCKER " Do you want to die like a Kochsucker? Keep digging, dumb-bell. I wouldn't worry about Venona either - quantum computing is bound up with strong AI and that can protect privacy where warranted. After all we will be merging with it so it can't be too anti-social. People like you that have become slightly stupid and even anarchist resistant shouldn't be on this list. TSTBALAA

" . . . their political ideology is far from monolithic. There are anarchists, Marxist-Leninists, communists, socialists, and likely every flavor and distinction in between. Many have been involved in Atlanta’s local anarchist and community-organizing scene; some worked on mutual-aid projects during Covid, or participated in the George Floyd protests, or helped organize traditional union campaigns at their workplaces. Those from out of town learned about the forest through “movement media,” social media, and word of mouth, sacrificing vacation time or their jobs altogether to visit the forest. What unites them, however, is their commitment to direct action . . . " https://anarchistnews.org/content/battle-‘cop-city’ Reposts not baseless accusations
