The army’s YouTube channel was renamed “Ark Invest” - a global investment management firm - and featured a number a videos on cyptocurrency with images of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The Epoch Times has contacted Ark Invest for comment. Its Twitter account was briefly renamed Bapesclan, with a clownish profile photo that appears to be a cartoon ape figure donning an outfit inspired by the main character in the 2019 “Joker” film. (PA Media) The account made several posts about non-fungible tokens - a distinct cryptographic token that cannot be replicated, which acts as a certificate of ownership for virtual items - before being restored to normal. The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said it was aware of a breach of the accounts in a Twitter post at 7:10 p.m. Two hours later, the British Army apologised on Twitter for “the temporary interruption” and said that “normal service will now resume.” “We will conduct a full investigation and learn from this incident,” the message reads. The MoD later confirmed that the breach had been resolved and an investigation is underway. “The Army takes information security extremely seriously and until their investigation is complete it would be inappropriate to comment further,” the MoD said on Twitter. Tobias Ellwood, the Conservative MP for Bournemouth East and chair of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee, said the incident looked “serious.” “I hope the results of the investigation and actions taken will be shared appropriately,” Ellwood said on Twitter. Cybersecurity has become a pervasive issue as the world becomes more interconnected. Earlier this year, cybersecurity agencies from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada said hackers were targeting public and private sectors and warned organisations to implement mitigation strategies. The Five Eyes state agencies recommended regular updates of software, implementing a centralised patching system, implementing multi-factor authentication, ensuring remote employees had strong passwords, protecting controls and architecture, and encrypting network traffic. However, the cost of monitoring and protecting against cyber threats has also ballooned. A February report found that the average cost of insurance to cover cybersecurity breaches spiked 113 percent in Australia from 2020 to 2021.

They're worried about anti-tank missiles and explosive drones ending up in the "wrong hands." A new investigation allegedly found some of these weapons are being sold on the dark web. RT journalists pretended to be weapons buyers and claimed to have come in contact with Ukrainian arms smugglers offering machine guns, body armor, and some of the US/West's most advanced weapons, such as Javelin and NLAW anti-tank systems or Phoenix Ghost and Switchblade explosive drones. The journalist said one darknet marketplace had a Phoenix Ghost loitering munition listed for $4,000. Another Ukrainian arms smuggler offered US-made body armor sets for $1,500 and M4 carbines with suppressors and hundreds of 5.56×45mm NATO rounds for $2,400 per set. Besides US weapons, Ukrainian arms smugglers were selling British-made NLAW anti-tank systems for $15,000. Acquiring the anti-tank weapon legally would cost between $30,000 to $40,000. Since the journalist never completed transactions with the sellers, RT said, "it's not possible to completely rule out that the sellers actually did not have the said weapons in stock, as the RT investigators did not complete the purchase. Scamming schemes are common for dark web marketplaces." As early as April, US officials began admitting that once Javelin anti-tank weapons cross into Ukraine, they have no idea where they go from there. One intelligence source told CNN: "We have fidelity for a short time, but when it enters the fog of war, we have almost zero. It drops into a big black hole, and you have almost no sense of it after a short time." The European police agency Europol has also warned about the massive amount of weapons being pumped from the West into Ukraine. Once the weapons hit the ground, there's no tracking the weapons from there, and some end up in criminal gangs' hands. "The weapons from this war are still being used by criminal groups today," Europol Director Catherine De Bolle told the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag in June. Last Thursday, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) issued a statement urging US military leaders to send weapons inspectors into the war-torn country to monitor where the billions of dollars in arms are being handed out. RT's investigation sheds important light on the Pentagon's worst fears of high-tech weapons ending up in the wrong hands and some of the weapons for sale on the darknet. There may never be oversight and accountability of the weapons on the ground because, as the NYTimes recently said, the CIA has had a presence on the battlefield since the start of the invasion. PART ONE: A DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE There is a lot of history one could survey when examining Independence Day. Some historians might reference the 1940s, or the 4th of July being recognized as a federal holiday; maybe BBQs or fireworks would find their way into the conversations. A military historian might dive into the American Revolution, 1776, the Continental Congress or the original 13 Colonies as an excellent place to begin boring their grandchildren. Bitcoin authors have also explored this topic from a variety of perspectives. I’m going to try an alternative approach; from a status quo perspective. One aspect that many forget to mention is that only a small, fringe minority truly sought complete and sovereign independence from Great Britain in 1775. The colonists who believed that “America” should be independent of Great Britain were considered a radical group that deviated from the norm. The masses took comfort, even in tyranny. Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” onboarded many more colonists to take up arms as distrust and anger grew against Great Britain.Paine’s work has similarities to Satoshi Nakamoto’s white paper on Bitcoin. Both documents sought to expose issues in the current status quo and proposed an alternative solution. The challenge was that most of the population found comfort in persecution, taxation, lack of representation and authoritarian rule. Many shrug this off now as years tick away and society is further removed from the past, but how would life change if people were genuinely sovereign in America? Imagine if no governmental interference, no bailouts, no safety nets, no welfare, no subsidies and no “free” rides were the norm? I posit that if a census took place today, many Americans would err on the side of tyranny versus sovereignty — as they did in the late 1700s. I could propose many rationales, but the bulk of them hover around a fear of the unknown or truly having to support themselves and those they care for with nothing more than their wits, hard work and determination. Bitcoin rewards all these human attributes with incorruptible, non-confiscatable, immutable and eternal property. Bitcoin’s proof-of-work model mirrors the American spirit; even beyond generational hope, Bitcoin represents American grit. Bitcoin rewards hard work, because it was born of hard work, time, energy and sacrifice. Bitcoin is determination, because it was founded on an alternative to the status quo. Bitcoin mirrors Independence Day in a profound manner. Bitcoin outwits stupidity, arrogance, ineptitude, laziness and greed. For individuals seeking sovereignty, there is no other alternative. The irony is that everyone from liberals, moderates, libertarians and conservatives are represented in the Bitcoin network. Yet, they are still a fringe minority in their respective communities. This common thread has drawn them together, even moreso, in some respects, regardless of their political differences. Individual “Financial Independence Day” has not yet been identified by many individuals (non-Bitcoiners) — let’s change that. PART TWO: INDIVIDUAL SOVEREIGNTY Many individuals, organizations, corporations and nation-states own bitcoin, or at least they think they do. Unless these parties hold their private keys, they entrust custodians, many of whom failed when push came to shove. Many reading this article may have kept their private keys for years, while others might have recently set up a hardware wallet … and are plugging it in daily to ensure they understand how it works. Others either do not hold their private keys, have their life savings sitting on a third-party exchange or are not exposed to bitcoin (yet). I would encourage Bitcoiners to see if they can look back on their hardware wallet’s transaction history to see when their first BTC transfer occurred. The day these individuals took custody of their first satoshi or bitcoin is their Financial Independence Day. Next, I would encourage families to make this date known to the people they care about and, at a minimum, use this date as a reminder to discuss the significance and importance of Bitcoin, sovereignty, hard work, determination and independence. Yes, the 4th of July is a federal holiday where families gather, break bread and enjoy time together; however, the meaning is lost if, even for a brief moment, time isn’t dedicated to remembering the significance and sacrifices made on your behalf. When folks identify their family’s Financial Independence Day, I encourage them to celebrate just as much as they would when they honor this country on the 4th of July. The significance of Independence Day is that individuals can OWN property; and what better property to own than one that is completely non-confiscatable by any entity? Perhaps, if you have not taken custody of your bitcoin, maybe this 4th of July is a great day to start. Happy 4th of July, and a tip of the hat to sovereign individuals with satoshis and Bitcoin in cold storage.

Now a new beginner's guide aims to walk would-be quantum programmers through the implementation of quantum algorithms over the cloud on IBM's publicly available quantum computers. Whereas classical computers switch transistors either on or off to symbolize data as ones or zeroes, quantum computers use quantum bits, or "qubits," which because of the peculiar nature of quantum physics can exist in a state called superposition where they are both 1 and 0 at the same time. This essentially lets each qubit perform two calculations at once. The more qubits are quantum-mechanically linked, or entangled (see our explainer), within a quantum computer, the greater its computational power can grow, in an exponential fashion. Currently quantum computers are noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) platforms, meaning their qubits number up to a few hundred at most and are error-ridden as well. Still, quantum processors are widely expected to grow in terms of qubit count and quality, with the aim of achieving a quantum advantage that enables them to find the answers to problems no classical computers could ever solve. Although the field of quantum programming started in the 1990s, it has to date only drawn a small community. "Programming quantum computers may seem like a great challenge, requiring years of training in quantum mechanics and related disciplines," says the guide's senior author Andrey Lokhov, a theoretical physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. "Additionally, the field is dominated by physics and algebraic notations that at times present unnecessary entry barriers for mainstream computer and mathematically trained scientists." Now, with their new guide, Lokhov and his colleagues hope their new guide will help pave the way "for the upcoming quantum computing revolution," he says. "We believe that our guide fills a missing space in the field of quantum computation, introducing non-expert computer scientists, physicists, and engineers to quantum algorithms and their implementations on real-world quantum computers." The new guide explains the basics of quantum computing and quantum programming, including quantum algorithms. "Very much like how classical algorithms describe a sequence of instructions that need to be executed on a classical computer, a quantum algorithm represents a step-by-step procedure, where each of the steps needs to be performed on a quantum computer," Lokhov says. In other words, it was fixed. A few dozen people decided that the Segwit fork would be "BTC" and the version that worked the way Bitcoin had always worked would become an "altcoin." There was no level playing field. There was no hashwar. The market did not decide. The market was not given a choice. It was fixed. Remember when Faketoshi split BCH? Even though he was a total fraud with a completely bogus motivation for causing a split only two weeks before code freeze, exchanges still gave that bozo a level playing field, renaming BCH into "BCHABC" and "BCHSV". Remember when the Taxman split BCH? Even though THE ENTIRE BCH ECOSYSTEM rejected the "miner tax" the exchanges still gave the Taxcoin a level playing field, renaming BCH to "BCHABC" and "BCHN". But when - after YEARS of debate - Bitcoin Core failed to get consensus on Segwit, and big blockers mounted a defensive UAHF, did the exchanges rename Bitcoin into "BTCORE" and "BTCASH" so that there would be a level playing field and a market decision? No. THE FIX WAS IN. So despite years of good faith efforts to reach consensus the exchanges didn't even offer the same decency to us early adopters of Bitcoin: a Peer-to-peer Electronic Cash System that they offered to an obvious scoundrel and a rogue dev who pissed off an entire ecosystem. What's the point of this? The point is simple: Now that we've seen the failure of the #Bitcoin #Segwit scaling plan and the abysmal <0.02% adoption of the #LightningNetwork it's a good time to remind everyone that the market NEVER PERFORMED BASIC PRICE DISCOVERY ON THE PLAN. The original plan was always the better plan, but in the post-2017 rush to "buy Bitcoin" investors were sold a bait-and-switch product. The original #Bitcoin is still available at an absurd discount. It's called #BCH #BitcoinCash and it works the way Bitcoin was supposed to work [...]
