I wanted him back so deeply... I wanted back all the poetry and the music with all my heart and soul. His best friend, an engineer like him, said that it _never_ would be possible. He was wrong. It _is_ possible, but I never wanted a bot pretending to be him. A bot never will write me sincere poetry about love and sea. Brazil's government decided to install Windows in ALL the government's machines because of the -- brrr! -- horrible hackers. It's a radio transmitter that seizes complete control of nearby drones as they're in mid-flight. From then on, the drones are under the full control of the person with the hijacking device. The remote control in the possession of the original operator experiences a loss of all functions, including steering, acceleration, and altitude. The hack works against any drone that communicates over DSMx, a widely used remote control protocol for operating hobbyist drones, planes, helicopters, cars, and boats. - - - There are interesting comments about which common protocols are actually vulnerable to this attack, but perhaps much more to the point -- and this aspect seems to almost always be overlooked in discussions like this even though it should be obvious -- any flyer operating in autonomous mode with the main radio purposely inoperative (it could be programmed to enable briefly for takeoff and landing if necessary) will be invulnerable to such attacks, and still be extremely capable -- in most cases fully able to fly its entire programmed mission without interference. This includes virtually all of the systems based on the widely available open source ArduCopter code.

We think of the USA and other Western nations as "erroneously considering that George Orwell's '1984' was a blueprint of what to create rather than a warning of what to avoid" and how bad things are (and yes, things really are pretty bad by important standards and principles of human rights, freedom of travel, freedom to communicate) yet we also consider "that relatively speaking, we have it pretty good compared to the days of the inquisition, to pick a random historical example". Well, pity the folks failing to withstand the onslaught of fascist think, open and invited encouragement to inform on your neighbours - and many people doing so, and many journalists and other folk suffering extended prison sentences as a result. Today. In the CIA's latest little "regime change exercise" in Ukraine. With a Ministry of Truth (Ministry of Information) functioning right out of Orwell's pages, with various phrases which cannot be spoken, certain political parties banned and various films and TV shows banned in the country, Ukraine excels at fascism like few other countries today can compete with. This is quite astounding from one perspective, but certainly a timely reminder of one of the realities that humans can live and be towards one another, today, as in here and now in an Eastern "European" country. This particular insight stands out: "According to Arendt totalitarian movements and states have in common the conception of an objective enemy. Totalitarianism can hardly exist without such a conception. IPFS via Tor

So hey, IPFS works with a Tor/OnionCat-linked proxy even better than Freenet does :) Or LizardFS. Because IPFS is a bloody swarm, and it seems fine with latency. Also, as with Freenet, it seems possible to extend the IPFS swarm into OnionCat IPv6 address space. So one could add stuff to IPFS from several onions, access it via IPFS gateways (clearnet and onion) and tolerate considerable loss of source onions. And speed is impressive! My Freenet/OnionCat guide at erehwon.dev.null <http://dbshmc5frbchaum2.onion/Freenet-OnionCat.html> loads rather slowly, given high latency with multiple proxy layers. But after adding from my node to IPFS, it loads quickly via the official IPFS gateway: <https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmP9FXUN3t8yUJnJerkj57cfzFYbgPmKV2QsCY8M2NHFqf /Freenet-OnionCat.html>. It also loads quickly via a volunteer public onion gateway: <http://ipfs4uvgthshqonk.onion/ipfs/ QmP9FXUN3t8yUJnJerkj57cfzFYbgPmKV2QsCY8M2NHFqf/Freenet-OnionCat.html>. The downside is that, by default, nodes route for the entire IPFS swarm. That currently means ~2 GB per day. But that can be decreased substantially by running in dhtclient mode. OnionCat-only nodes would be probably be OK with that, and only clearnet/OnionCat gateways would need full routing. Alternatively, one could have an isolated IPFS swarm in OnionCat IPv6 address space, with much less throughput.
