ICE confirmed using cell site simulators to capture undocumented immigrants
by M373 01 Jun '17

This is unsurprising but it's now confirmed via search warrant documentation that ICE is using a cell site simulator/IMSI catcher described as a Hailstorm or a Stingray http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/detroit-city/2017/05/18/cell-sn… to surveil and prosecute undocumented immigrants. Journalists and ACLU https://www.aclu.org/news/aclu-seeks-documents-ices-use-cell-phone-trackers (probably others) are making FOIA requests and will likely need to sue. Cell site simulators were kept mostly secret for about a decade after introduction for domestic use and local departments were required by FBI or manufacturer to conceal their use from judges and defense counsels. https://gizmodo.com/ice-agents-are-using-stingray-surveillance-tech-to-capt… In some cases, such as St. Louis, prosecutors dropped charges against defendants who had cell site simulators used against them. Cell site simulators are *strongly* suspected of being used against protesters in Chicago, St. Louis/Ferguson, and Minneapolis, and known to have been used in Standing Rock http://geekswobounds.org/sites/default/files/Security%20at%20Resistance%20C… http://gwob.org/security-at-resistance-camps-lessons-from-standing-rock/ , including delivering malware payloads. ICE joins dozens of state and local law enforcement agencies, and FBI, USMS, ATF, DEA, IRS, FCC, NSA, and various military entities. https://www.aclu.org/map/stingray-tracking-devices-whos-got-them https://theintercept.com/surveillance-catalogue/ http://graphics.wsj.com/surveillance-catalog/ Given the military-industrial-surveillance complex and that a moderately skilled hacker can construct one, they are no doubt in use by private security and intelligence agencies, as well, with G4S and Academi/Xe/Blackwater certainly coming to mind. So use the crypto (Signal or others), to the extent that it protects content in transit. Some cell site simulators' imitation convinces phones to decrypt the carrier's encryption. If a device can be infected then even measures like Signal may be circumvented. We need more privacy-by-design and hardened devices.

freedom of speech in our "Democracy" - [jim.sovereign@optusnet.com.au: 90 Year-old Woman Jailed for Questioning the "Holocaust".]

I can only agree with the sentiments expressed below of course, and although some cannot even contemplate the possibility of peering through this particular veil without an inner visceral reaction (entirely unfortunate for sane public discourse, which ought go without saying), we have a duty to one another to throw off the programmed shackles of public discourse draped in the politically correct taboos of the day - holocaust revisionism in this particular instance, but there are a plenty yet ... The corrupt, traitorous German politicians and judges responsible for this brave woman’s outrageous imprisonment for telling the truth should be in prison and not her! "a terrible brood of automata" - Steiner on the coming AI and autonomous robotic computer apocalypse
by Zenaan Harkness 31 May '17

Be warned fellow humans. This is from a man who spoke nearly 100 years ago, of things we are yet to see, but which we now agree are entirely foreseeable. 100 years ago computers did not yet exist. Yet the prediction of their inevitability and the worse things yet to be (quite possibly) seen. And yes, a hint at an approach or "prescription" if you will to forge a different pathway into the future. But who can name such a pathway, even after reading this lecture transcription? http://southerncrossreview.org/112/steiner-evolution-extraterrestrials.html Evolution and Extraterrerestials Rudolf Steiner A Lecture given at Dornach on May 13, 1921 for members of the Anthroposophical Society(GA 204) (From a shorthand report not revised by the lecturer.)

Given that I will likely not be prosecuted, I should reveal my trump card
by Ryan Carboni 30 May '17

During early 2013, when attempting to run puppy linux, I remove the CD, as I always do. However there is little noticed logic to the operating system, when you remove the disk after inputting the password it will boot up from the flash drive's faster newer version, but instead it requested the CD. The CD was physically similar to the ones I burn. But this event shows that my CD was replaced, that someone is willing to substitute actual products for seemingly identical ones. Given that Puppy Linux has the GNU GPL, if a police organization has a version of it with a backdoor, they have to disclose it or be in violation of copyright law. Given how the government is loathe to disclose secrets, and perhaps even the ACLU, I will likely not be prosecuted on the basis of any evidence related to my use of a computer. Anyway, I should inform you folks how to seize the memes of production. Get those celebrities who praised Tor to say what the NSA is doing is excessive, invasive, hurtful, and does not represent the American values they believe in. Instead of... "the debate". Even if there is a border search exemption, people should be notified if it is at 100%. Or go around rebutting the spyshills, telling them that Snowden must be a senior government official, since despite the efforts of numerous journalists for a scoop, Snowden disclosed the extent of NSA surveillance first. Memes only have to be facially true to the greatest number of people (you too can be a politician for $0). "You're free little ones! Run!" *baa* *baa* *baa* "They aren't leaving the gate." "You have to pick them up and place them outside to free them."

More word about NSA illegality.

http://nation.foxnews.com/2017/05/29/declassified-documents-reveal-illegal-… By Dr. Katherine Harris | OpsLens“With the new administration of President Donald Trump and his new Attorney General, there is a move to limit the abuses of the restrictions imposed by the FISA courts. The release of ‘declassified’ top secret documents reveals that the NSA, under the Obama administration, routinely violated standards, safeguards, and the Constitution. In a ruling issued last month, but just now unsealed, the 99-page court opinion chastised NSA for spying without warrants. The FISA Court (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court) censured administration officials saying the failure to disclose the extent of the violations earlier amounted to an “institutional lack of candor” and that the improper searches constituted a “very serious Fourth Amendment issue.”The 4th Amendment says the following: “no Warrants shall be issued but upon probable cause supported by Oath or affirmation and particularly describing the place to be searched and the person or things to be seized.”So, what exactly is at issue here? Use of NSA generated data without a FISA warrant under the guise of National Security purposes, poses a serious threat. Blatant, consistent, and knowingly violating the minimization procedures and protocols for collecting data was for years ignored.http://opslens.com/2017/05/27/declassified-documents-reveal-illegal… ×

Energy Transfer Partners (#DAPL) hired a military intelligence/mercenary outfit (TigerSwan) which wrote a report for them comparing Anti-Pipeline-activist operation to Afghanistan battlefield intel ops, activist actions as an "Insurgency", and the activists... "Jihadists". > Internal TigerSwan communications describe the movement as “an > ideologically driven insurgency with a strong religious component” and > compare the anti-pipeline water protectors to jihadist fighters. Mystical Things May Be Inside Your CPU's

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microcode https://danluu.com/cpu-bugs/ We saw some really bad Intel CPU bugs in 2015, and we should expect to see more in the future https://danluu.com/cpu-backdoors/ what could a backdoored CPU do, how could the backdoor be accessed, and what kind of compromise would be required to install the backdoor? https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=219268 Blobs that fix exploitable things may be slightly better than blobs. Awareness should be raised, and updates applied to systems. Unless fixes are tricks to install more exploits ;)

how to best organise a large community "important" books library?
by Zenaan Harkness 28 May '17

28 May '17

So you're a doomsday prepper and you intend to throw a few dollars at a multi TiB "restart civilization" digital book library with a few million books, a few laptops and some solar cells to power them. How best to hierarchically organise the group/ community doomsday digital book library? Say 5 million books, each in its own directory (for any cover art, PDF and or text versions of the book, perhaps audio, code, etc). Debian has ~40K packages, and divides these into {a..z}* and lib{a..z}*, for roughly 60 "top level" directories. Each package has its subdirectory in one of these. The largest directories are at about 2K to 3K entries (subdirectories). However, when prepping for a few million books, we have around 1000 times as many "packages"/books to store, which could mean e.g. 50,000 or more in the popular s directory for example - probably a little more than is sane. "Formal" library software (e.g. Evergreen) may be the answer for repo wide searchability of meta data, but when others share interest, they may only be able to store, and or may be only particularly interested in a sub-category or two such as health and agriculture/gardening, so it might be best anyway to use a handful of top level "general categories" to reduce our maximums down from 50K books per dir, to 10 fold fewer at least. Has anyone done anything like this, and if so, how did you solve it? (Medium term, the problem begs for a git-like addressed, git-like P2P addressable/verifiable "content management" solution; e.g. if I have a random collection of say 10K books, it would be nice to be able to say something like: git library init # add my books: git add . git commit git library sort categories git library add index1 # create an "indexing" branch git commit # add some upstream/p2p libraries for indexing/search/federation: git library index add upstream:uni.berkely git library p2p add i2p.tunnel:myfriend.SHA git library full-index pull myfriend.SHA git library math-index pull myfriend.SHA git library book:SHA pull myfriend.SHA ) Perhaps this has not been really done before?
