Snowden, who made this statement earlier this month at a Blockstack event in Berlin, said that he believes Bitcoin’s chief drawback does not have to do with its ability to scale — as many critics allege — but rather its lack of privacy. “Everybody is focused on the transaction rate limitations of bitcoin being its central flaw, and that is a major one, but I would argue that the much larger structural flaw, the long-lasting flaw, is its public ledger,” he said via webcam. “That is simply incompatible with having an enduring mechanism for trade, because you cannot have a lifelong history of everyone’s purchases, all of their interactions be available to everyone and have that work out well at scale.” “I don’t think Bitcoin will last forever,” added Snowden, who hinted that he had used Bitcoin in 2013 to conceal his identity while preparing to release classified National Security Agency (NSA) documents documenting privacy abuses — including some that showed the NSA was actively spying on Bitcoin users. “Bitcoin does important work and I do think it will have enduring value for a long time, but particularly when we look at the core development team and their rate of improvement to the protocol, they simply need to better or they will not be able to compete,” he continued. Snowden said that he is most interested in privacy-centric cryptocurrencies like Zcash, which obfuscate blockchain data to allow users to verify the integrity of transactions while keeping them private from would-be snoopers. “When we talk about which cryptocurrencies are interesting to me, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Zcash for me is the most interesting right now, because the privacy properties of it are truly unique, but we see more and more projects that are trying to emulate this and I think this is a positive thing.” Snowden added that he had tested Monero and a variety of other privacy-centric coins, though in the past he has said that he feels more comfortable with Zcash since it has been developed by academic cryptographers. Nextgen Networks: Autonomous Slack Space Storage [re: IQNets classes qpq repute]

http://piratebayztemzmv.onion/top/all https://youtube.com/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-viewed_YouTube_videos https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_hash_table https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exabyte https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zettabyte https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zettabyte_Era https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIKPjOuwqHo A new globally distributed P2P autonomously self maintaining deduplicating plug and play slack space object storage network could easily surpass 100EB... "slack space" - network utilizes say 80% of free space on disk for itself, maintains that by progressively removing its own extents upon sensing storage pressure encroaching the remaining 20% (from users other apps), adds more extents if users space later decreases. Some data expiry models exist as natural byproduct in a number of types of storage networks... - Equal resource sharing / trading, pay based... prioritizes the equal player, highest payer, etc. - Curation, review, governance... follows the whim bias demand and censorship of those actors / crowd - Seed based networks... survive until the last seed. These types also don't support insert and disconnect operations very well... indigent artists, first leaks, bulk publishers, etc. Prior attempts at distributed self maintaining object storage networks may have assumed that demand fallof is the only valid metric to expiry. http://piratebayztemzmv.onion/top/48hall In absense of the three above, short term flash demand is news, thus always valid. Long term, things start looking different, unpopular and or old hashes often begin to hold term value and importance. Models for a network open to the masses, that happens to prune historical top N hashes at each hashes respective M year accounting point, may be unlikely to lose anything of importance perhaps due to eventual popular reuploading from other sources. Designers of new nets may want to consider priortizing any space reclamation needs based on some analysis of real world "popular pop trash" content falloff patterns, some physical library, museum, and attic holdings models, inverse falloff metrics, internally guaranteed levels of object redundancy, etc. Are any current networks autonomous, free from three models above?

Seems you should be building out your own P2P fiber mesh guerrilla network house-to-house owner-to-owner, each node independantly peering up with others... don't rent the internet monthly... be the internet. Take less than 2 years of ISP fee, invest upfront into independant P2P network node, easily gets 10+ years P2P operations in return. Did you know your central ISP spies on you, allows other centrals to spy on you, gives all your data away to big centrals. Distributed private P2P network is much harder to do that, especially when every link is independantly privately owned and fulltime link encrypted 1 or 10 GigE, and everyone is running overlays within. Go do it.

IQNets: user classes, network locality, quid pro quo, torrents at core, on gaming reputation
by Zenaan Harkness 13 Dec '19

13 Dec '19

The IQNets network is a friend to friend network. IQNets provides for links to, and routes through, unknown peers/nodes (ala bittorrent). IQNets is built on certain principles such as quid pro quo. For example, since primary network entry is via friends, friends are giving or sharing bandwidth between themselves. IQNets incentivizes sharing ([private request from Bill to John] "yo John, can you stay online for 20 minutes, I want to finish downloading last year's GoT.") Such requests may be broadcast to your group of friends, and possibly their friends, possibly anonymously (but verifiably as belonging to one of your friends if you previously established the appropriate cryptographic comms ring/net; Getting more friend nodes results in greater maximum up/download capacity for any one node at a time (given typically bursty nature of impatient youtube watchers and movie downloaders), thus motivating meat space connections. also, friends don't dominate friend's internet connections - friends have a far greater tendency/incentive, to play nice with one another, than completely anonymous "fly by night" contacts. Classes of nodes (from a node's perspective): - direct friend nodes with a meat space asserted trust level, which may be anywhere on the trust axis - both above and below zero - indirect "friend of friend" nodes and so on - "unknown" nodes, once you get beyond friends of friends of friends I guess - there is also every reason to utilize a bittorrent style DHT to make contact with "genuinely 'unknown' nodes" - DHT bootstrapping? also, read up on PEX Classes of locality: - legal jurisdiction locality - relevant magnitude is most likely "nation" or "state" - ISP locality - other IQNets users within my ISP - "roaming" IPv6 addresses? Is this a thing yet? - If this exists, it could be called dynamic network locality, and is probably important and useful to know about. - Certainly seizing dynamic connectivity by the horns is going to be useful for maximizing "ad hoc p2p wireless" within a crowd of people. Classes of quid pro quo: - network connectivity - storage/ content caching resources (design TODO) Storage metrics, just as with network metrics, are also maintained in order to establish fairness - quid pro quo. At its most basic, the internet is about making available, and downloading, content of one form or another, be it tweets, web pages, movies or phone calls; iow, the internet is a content distribution network. The internet as it was conceived has core design principles which are desirable for robustness and censorship resistance, such as peer to peer communications and flexible routing. In practice, the internet today falls somewhat short of its founding ideals due primarily to our governments (military) stalking us and snooping on us, and corporations (profit at all costs) interests. A bittorrent like protocol shall form the fundament of IQNets, with configurable settings which would impact possible levels of privacy and anonymity. In other words, the goal is high speed and relatively efficient network utilization for arbitrary, and arbitrarily large, content distribution, whilst maintaining configurable levels of (at least partially achievable) privacy and anonymity. I.e. "large file distribution" is a first class citizen in the IQNets network. With a shout out to cypherpunk Juan for suggesting the idea. IQNets - making the impossible possible. Framed in the terms of our fundamental human rights, IQNets reclaims for all end user "nodes", the role of primary authority; echos of GNS (GNU Name Server) design principles. On gaming reputation: - nodes self declare intentions or expectations such as bandwidth, uptime/ connectivity, the node's estimated/assumed monthly quota, suitable times for use of bandwidth (peak vs off peak), and more. - metrics are empirically measured of course and stored so that sane and safe routing and connection decisions can be made - friends share metrics (at least, on request) - nodes may collude to proclaim "great metrics" amongst themselves, which they broadcast to other nodes who ask, but ultimately, the empirical evidence that I observe, is the primary metrics data of relevance, followed by that shared with me by my 'friends', and finally, that which other nodes self declare
