Landmarking the Black Panther Party https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2024-02-24/how-chicago-is-landmarki… It's also a preservationist mirror to the Panther philosophy of self-determination. “The organization is going to make sure that the true history of the Black Panther Party is told,” Hall says. “We’re not waiting for anyone to do that for us.”

Landmarking the Black Panther Party https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2024-02-24/how-chicago-is-landmarki… “We wanted to go for the big win,” says Xavier Buck, the foundation’s executive director. “Adding to the national park system gives it legitimacy on a different scale, and it gives it legitimacy in a country that once had all these people under FBI surveillance. My hope is that every single city where there was a chapter could potentially join our national park unit and become the largest national park in the nation.”

Landmarking the Black Panther Party https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2024-02-24/how-chicago-is-landmarki… Several of these buildings lack the grandeur or design pedigree of typical preservationist causes. Take the “three-flat” apartment building where Panther co-founder Brooks lived — a modest red-brick structure that looks like thousands of others in Chicago. Yet this building still tells a story about Black wealth creation (if you were the landlord) and Black wealth extraction (if you were a tenant). So does its setting, a West Side neighborhood full of empty lots. “More people have been in three-flats than buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright,” says Elizabeth Blasius, a preservationist that was on the state council that recommended the Panthers’ nomination. “That’s where history happens.”

Landmarking the Black Panther Party https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2024-02-24/how-chicago-is-landmarki… Opposition to the effort has emerged from unexpected directions, and feelings around the group and its history in Chicago remain bitterly contested. In the late 1960s, federal authorities portrayed the party as a rampaging street gang; FBI director J. Edgar Hoover called the Panthers “the greatest threat to the internal security of the country” and directed the bureau’s COINTELPRO counter-intelligence program to disrupt the group’s membership — a campaign that, most scholars agree, culminated in Hampton’s assassination.

Landmarking the Black Panther Party https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2024-02-24/how-chicago-is-landmarki… The feeling of sanctuary behind these engine-block thick walls was more than metaphorical: The Panthers felt the Chicago police, who had raided their headquarters, would not break down the doors of a church. It was “liberated territory,” said Black Panthers’ Illinois chapter co-founder Bobby Rush, who later represented Chicago in Congress for 30 years. “We felt safe there.”

SBF is good guy. Weird as sh*t?can be strange

SBF’s new homie, G Lock, a former member of the Bloods, gave an update on the former billionaire Crypto Queen to crime reporter Tiffany Fong <https://substack.com/redirect/3138e4bc-87a0-4aad-b0b0-981c12a58205?j=eyJ1Ij…>. SBF remains at the Brooklyn jail while awaiting his sentencing on March 28, where he faces up to 115 years behind bars <https://substack.com/redirect/21dd2854-ac55-45aa-9500-3439df69e9de?j=eyJ1Ij…> . *“SBF is good guy. Weird as sh*t—can be strange. But he is a good guy. He didn’t snitch on nobody—Sam is a gangster. Sam is more of a gangster than Tekashi69; Sam Bankman stood on all ten toes. Tekashi ratted [a reference to the rapper who cut his 40-year prison term for weapons and drug charges by turning on his fellow gang members]. When we first saw SBF, he was clean-shaven and had a belly—he had been eating good. Now he is as skinny as a toothpick [SBF subsidies on bread and peanut butter because they won’t feed him the vegan diet]. He’s not getting a shower; he’s not doing anything. Now he scruffier than a motherf*cker—full beard. But nobody’s beating him up. Biden should pardon SBF.”* *—G Lock is a fellow SBF jailmate and former member of the Bloods.*

Live Updates: FTX's Sam Bankman-Fried at Bloomberg Crypto Summit - Bloomberg
by Gunnar Larson 25 Feb '24

FBI, what on Earth was happening back in 2022 for these surveillance people in Chelsea to say that if Gunnar went to the Bloomberg Crypto Summit that Gunnar would be arrested? So strange then? Funny now for you. Meanwhile, Sullivan & Cromwell had a T -15 months from FTX blowing up. The Bloomberg Crypto Summit holds clues to FTX going under. Poor Sam! Gunnar --- Live Updates: FTX's Sam Bankman-Fried at Bloomberg Crypto Summit - Bloomberg https://www.bloomberg.com/news/live-blog/2022-07-18/ftx-s-sam-bankman-fried… Jul 1912:11 ‘Herd behavior’ drove much of crypto rout, Bankman-Fried Says Recent downturn helped shake out weaker players, he says Stability in markets, not volatility, better for growth ‘Moderately bad’ deals acceptable to foster stability, he says Thanks for tuning into the session. Here are some key takeaways from Sam Bankman-Fried’s interview with Matt Levine at the Bloomberg Crypto Summit: In bailing out crypto companies, Bankman-Fried said he wanted to make sure customers got their deposits back. “We need to be a good, constructive actor in this space,” he said about his efforts to avert a crypto contagion. Some companies Bankman-Fried talked about bailouts with didn’t know or couldn’t provide numbers on their own balance sheets, he said. On Three Arrows Capital, the crypto hedge fund that filed for bankruptcy, Bankman-Fried said “their trading was probably more like punting than arbitrage making.” It’s not that their positions were illiquid, they just lost their money, he said. While volatility can be good for exchanges in the short term, stability and a healthy ecosystem is what benefits the players in the long term, he said. FTX keeps its treasury in dollars, he said. It also doesn’t let its users’ accounts to go negative, exercising prudent risk management. Olga Kharif Technology Reporter
