However, the UK Home Office is reportedly planning an ad campaign to mobilize public opinion against end-to-end encryption using what critics called "scaremongering" tactics, according to a report from Rolling Stone. The UK government plans to team up with charities and law enforcement agencies on a public relations blitz created by M&C Saatchi advertising agency, the report states. The aim of the campaign is to relay a message that end-to-end encryption could hamper efforts to curb child exploitation online. "We have engaged M&C Saatchi to bring together the many organizations who share our concerns about the impact end-to-end encryption would have on our ability to keep children safe," a Home Office spokesperson told Rolling Stone in a statement. The government has allocated £534,000 ($730,500) for the blitz, according to a letter sent from the Home Office in response to a freedom of information request. The campaign may include elements designed to make the public "uneasy," according to a slideshow designed to help it recruit non-profit coalition partners. That includes a proposed stunt with adult and child actors placed in a glass box as it fades to black. It also involves a "social media activation where we ask parents to write to Mark [Zuckerberg] via their Facebook status." One slide noted that "most of the public have never heard" of end-to-end encryption, meaning they can "be easily swayed" on the subject. It also states that the government "must not start a privacy vs safety debate." Privacy advocates called the plans "scaremongering" and said that a lack of end-to-end encryption could have the opposite intended effect. "Without strong encryption, children are more vulnerable online than ever. Encryption protects personal safety and national security… what the government is proposing puts everyone at risk," Internet Society's Robin Wilton told Rolling Stone.

note: the huggingface demo passes information to the model using token ids token ids are just indexed sets of character orders that occur together frequently (the tokenizer counts and decides these) with something based on math, since it's going to be learning using linear algebra, i'm wondering if it might make sense to retain the numeric value of the inputs. this could mean bypassing the use of integer input ids. the integer input ids are converted into high-dimensioned vectors using an 'embedding' matrix at the very start of the model. this matrix could be hand-altered by finding its property in the model, or removed/skipped entirely. a thought. the coefficients in the embedding matrix are trained via backpropagated gradients to determine the vectors. i think they end up being roughly random with some of their dimensions clustering similar data near each other and such.

today i started my first translation model training. i'd guess there's something new that's better than t5, but i don't know what. it will finish in only 3 weeks! so i am sitting and watching it. a running joke is that people spend their time watching models train, rather than working with the insides of the math and the algorithms to speed the training. dunno, maybe they do. seems like things are pretty unoptimized for that to be the case, though. when training, there's something called 'loss' which is like the distance between the model's guess and the real thing. it's supposed to steadily reduce. the loss of the setup i have starts around 9 or 10 and quickly drops to 4 or 5 then drops to 3.3 or so slowly and then bounces around while dropping much more slowly. at the start. i don't really know what that means, but i'm guessing my learning rate is too high and my batch size too small, cause of the jittering implying that how it updates from the derivatives isn't always improving things for the next batch. yup yup yup. i also have things in my life i could do instead of watching this. that's kind of confusing for me :S i recently had some cognitive stuff that changes things for me.
