"... he should have seen the shitstorm which would materialize as soon as this actually reached the public radar screen. Now that's gone public and been deep-sixed less than 24 hours later, it will likely be the end of this particular thing. An official, above-board version is likely to be ipso facto illegal for the same reason office baseball pools are illegal: illegal gambling. If the Pentagon can run a betting pool for its employees on when some event will happen, office workers can bet on the outcome of the World Series, and anyone can bet on the numbers revealed by the Mob. --Tim May https://www.mail-archive.com/cypherpunks@minder.net/msg51840.html

US Declaration Constitution BoR... Gets Trigger Warning, For Real
by grarpamp 09 Sep '21

"Harmful Language" Trigger Warning Added To US Constitution On National Archives Website https://summit.news/2021/09/08/harmful-language-trigger-warning-added-to-us… https://summit.news/2021/06/28/national-archives-task-force-suggests-racism… https://twitter.com/laurenboebert/status/1435355034578001923 https://www.archives.gov/ The official National Archives website has added a trigger warning to the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights which cautions that the documents contain “harmful language.” Yes, really. “The National Archives have now put a disclaimer on their website that our historical documents may include Harmful Content,” tweeted Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado). “They even slapped this warning on the Constitution. We tried to tell you the Left wanted to get rid of it!” The National Archives have now put a disclaimer on their website that our historical documents may include Harmful Content. They even slapped this warning on the Constitution. We tried to tell you the Left wanted to get rid of it! pic.twitter.com/UeJtqgudMm — Lauren Boebert (@laurenboebert) September 7, 2021 As part of the National Archives’ “institutional commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility,” it is now flagging “potentially harmful content,” which is defined as reflecting “racist, sexist, ableist, misogynistic/misogynoir, and xenophobic opinions and attitudes” or being “discriminatory towards or exclude diverse views on sexuality, gender, religion, and more.” “What are we becoming?” former Trump DHS secretary Ken Cuccinelli asked in a tweet. “Are you kidding me?” The development is not surprising given that a National Archives task force insisted earlier this summer that the historical portrayal of the founding fathers has previously been “too positive.” The group also demanded that the National Archives’ Rotunda building, which houses the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights, be considered an example of “structural racism.” It asked that new descriptions be added to “contextualize the records,” and notes placed to “forewarn audiences of content that may cause intense physiological and psychological symptoms.” A safe space was even requested so people who couldn’t handle words such as “elderly,” “handicapped” and “illegal alien” be given an area in which they could escape from presumably suffering some kind of panic attack. The American left went from holding a casual disregard to the history and founding of their own country to weaponizing Critical Race Theory as a means of subverting its entire historical basis. Good luck in the coming war with China.

1984: Ai Weiwei Canceled by Banks, Your Accounts to be Closed for Dissent and Infractions
by grarpamp 09 Sep '21

09 Sep '21

Make NO mistake about it, any online Dissent or Realworld Infractions, whether adjudicated or not, will soon result in closure of your bank accounts... Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei revealed that Credit Suisse had decided to close his foundation's bank account because of his "criminal record" in China. Despite the fact that the dissident has never been convicted of a crime. https://www.scmp.com/news/world/europe/article/3147933/chinese-dissident-ai… Credit Suisse Closes Account Of Chinese Dissident Ai Weiwei As Western Banks Fear Angering Beijing Credit Suisse has endured an onslaught of embarrassing headlines already this year following the collapse of Greensill and the blowup of Archegos, incidents that cost the bank billions of francs and damaged its reputation. But while this latest controversy probably won't impact the bank's bottom line, it does offer a glimpse of the conflicts and difficult decisions certain banks must make if they decide to grow their business in China. In a blog post published this week, Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei revealed that Credit Suisse had decided to close his foundation's bank account because of his "criminal record" in China. Despite the fact that the dissident has never been convicted of a crime. Ai is one of China's most well-known artists, who received acclaim for designing Beijing's bird nest stadium from the 2008 Olympics, but eventually fell out of favor and fled the country because of his dissident politics. Ai now lives in Portugal, where he apparently wrote an opinion piece for Artnet decrying Credit Suisse's decision to close his organization's account, which was almost certainly made after being pressured by Beijing. Though, oddly, news of the decision was reported by the SCMP, which is owned by Alibaba founder Jack Ma is known for a subtle pro-CCP bias. Credit Suisse declined to comment to SCMP for its story. "Credit Suisse initially informed me that they had a new policy to terminate all bank accounts which are related to people with criminal records," Ai said. The bank asked that the funds be moved by September. Ai was never formally charged with a crime, but he was detained for 81 days in 2011, an experience that featured into his later artwork. Ai said he was first contacted by the bank's managers in June and asked about an interview he had done with a Swiss newspaper several days before, in which he criticized Swiss people for voting in favor of tighter "anti-immigrant policies". Ai said this interview was cited as a reason for the closure. He added that some funds still remain in the account, but that they must be moved soon and that the account was mostly frozen. But that was most likely a ruse. As global megabanks jockey for favor with the CCP, they're being extremely careful not to do anything that might lead to them being shut out of the extremely lucrative private wealth business in China. CS and others have already conducted reviews of all their clients in Hong Kong, looking for ties to the pro-democracy movement in the city. Any clients with ties were immediately let go.
