https://arxiv.org/abs/2107.04940 You Really Shouldn't Roll Your Own Crypto: An Empirical Study of Vulnerabilities in Cryptographic Libraries The security of the Internet rests on a small number of open-source cryptographic libraries: a vulnerability in any one of them threatens to compromise a significant percentage of web traffic. Despite this potential for security impact, the characteristics and causes of vulnerabilities in cryptographic software are not well understood. In this work, we conduct the first comprehensive analysis of cryptographic libraries and the vulnerabilities affecting them. We collect data from the National Vulnerability Database, individual project repositories and mailing lists, and other relevant sources for eight widely used cryptographic libraries. Among our most interesting findings is that only 27.2% of vulnerabilities in cryptographic libraries are cryptographic issues while 37.2% of vulnerabilities are memory safety issues, indicating that systems-level bugs are a greater security concern than the actual cryptographic procedures. In our investigation of the causes of these vulnerabilities, we find evidence of a strong correlation between the complexity of these libraries and their (in)security, empirically demonstrating the potential risks of bloated cryptographic codebases. We further compare our findings with non-cryptographic systems, observing that these systems are, indeed, more complex than similar counterparts, and that this excess complexity appears to produce significantly more vulnerabilities in cryptographic libraries than in non-cryptographic software.

The tactical case for Mange support

Putting aside all the well-grounded charges of anti-social, crime, KGB and Nazi propagandizing, etc, the tactical case for Mange hinges on his world-historical importance. What has he done to justify our support? As it turns nothing - even by his own 2013 July estimation - except MAYBE having something to do with the defeat of Nurse Ratched in 2016. There are serious problems with attribution here though. Its hard to say if WL tipped the scales decisively enough to make a difference. If you can rationalize this you might decide to tactically support Mange temporarily. And along with that comes a lot of lying-by-omission so...I hope you're the Journalist type. Or maybe you're the Manson-Family-type. But do I repeat myself? Break-a-leg.

Having closely followed the APster saga from mid-90's on I can safely say I've read most of the corpse-media reports on it. They invariably lied about it. When you omit the concluding part of a ten-part essay then that's lying. Lying-by-omission. Amid this quarter-century of bad-faith and bullshit from servants of the state, it becomes more apparent that - in any large military-entertainment-complex - the corpse-media is precisely half the problem. To see the author of the APster essay defend journalism and journalists here is a spectacular exhibition of masochism. Jim Bell may as well hang a large " KICK ME " sign on his stomach. Strategically, I think lying is not something any revolutionary cypherpunk should support. The enemy ramps up its lying-by-omission so long as most people think they run things. People stop believing that - they stop running things.

Torsocks Errors

I am unable to torify my fetchmail anymore, because Torsocks prevents setguid programs from running, which does not interfeer with fetchmail but does interfeer with procmail. Does anyone know a solution?
