More news about the slavery you signed up for... https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-51237665 The Metropolitan Police has announced it will use live facial recognition cameras operationally for the first time on London streets. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qjdkq7/avast-antivirus-sells-user-browsi… Program used by hundreds of millions of people around the world is selling highly sensitive web browsing data to many of the world's biggest companies. Clients include Google, Yelp, Microsoft, McKinsey, Pepsi, Sephora, Home Depot, Conde Nast, Intuit, and many others. Some clients paid millions of dollars for products that include a so-called "All Clicks Feed," which can track user behavior, clicks, and movement across websites in highly precise detail. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/evjekz/the-california-dmv-is-making-doll… https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/43kxzq/dmvs-selling-data-private-investi… The California Department of Motor Vehicles is generating revenue of $50,000,000 a year through selling drivers' personal information, according to a DMV document obtained by Motherboard. DMVs across the country are selling data that drivers are required to provide to the organization in order to obtain a license. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2019/10/australia-wants-to-use-face-rec… https://www.cnet.com/news/australian-government-biometric-face-verification… "Home Affairs is developing a Face Verification Service which matches a person's photo against images used on one of their evidence of identity documents to help verify their identity," "the first phase of its new biometric Face Verification Service (FVS) is up and running, giving a number of government departments and the Australian Federal Police the ability to share and match digital photos of faces." Initially, the system was fairly limited. It only included photos of people who had applied to become Australian citizens. And use of the database was supposed to be limited to a handful of government agencies with a compelling need for it. But since then, the government has steadily expanded the system. Photos from other sources were added to the database. And Australia has been trying to develop a more sophisticated Face Identification Service that can identify unknown persons. "The Face Verification Service is not yet fully operational," the government acknowledges. "Whilst it is intended to be made available to private sector organizations in future, this will be subject to the passage of the Identity-matching Services Bill 2019 which is currently before Parliament."

The Next Political System
by Ryan Carboni 28 Jan '20

28 Jan '20

To understand the next political system requires understanding why the previous one has failed. https://nitter.net/AndrewHClark/status/1221824515740708866 NEW POLL: On virtually every big indicator Americans say things are better today than they were at the end of the Obama-Biden presidency. Economy is better (+22 points), country is more secure (+18 points), the military is stronger (+15 points), streets are safer (+9 points)... . I leave you with this quote: “Only three people have ever really understood the Schleswig-Holstein business—the Prince Consort, who is dead—a German professor, who has gone mad—and I, who have forgotten all about it."

Re: Server infrastructure talk for Extinction Rebellion
by Ryan Carboni 27 Jan '20

Extinction Rebellion is clearly a CIA-Russian operation. Beyond that, all organizations that offer membership to the public has a leadership comprised of informants. https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/08/03/delingpole-exposed-soros-on-lis… Major donors are said to include — inevitably — George Soros; Vivienne Westwood’s son Joe Corre (the saucy underwear and dildo tycoon, worth $48 million); the European Climate Foundation (which funnels money from far-left American philanthropic foundations to European climate projects); Greenpeace; the far-left Tides Foundation; and a little known Swiss asset management company, called Furka Holdings, founded by a banker with Russian links, which gave £50,000.

Server infrastructure talk for Extinction Rebellion
by Greg Newby 27 Jan '20

27 Jan '20

I just watched an informative talk from 36C3 by Julian Oliver: https://media.ccc.de/v/36c3-11008-server_infrastructure_for_global_rebellion At around minute 28 he begins talking about the specific server software, datacenter hosting, and other aspects of their operational security implementation. This description goes to around minute 44, and then there is some Q&A that is also quite informative. Nobody asked him why they didn't use TOR -- presumably it wasn't even a contender. For sysadmin activity they use VPNs to countries with strict data protection laws (Switzerland and Iceland are mentioned). Data partitions are encrypted, and they have various contingency plans in the event a server is seized. At around minute 34, there is a list of the different software choices they made to support Extinction Rebellion. They chose alternatives to Slack, Google, Mailchimp, Zoom, etc. Some were found to be better than the better-known alternatives, and some were worse, for performance, scalability and usability. He mentioned that modern users are looking for something like a Google-based single sign-on, which is anathema to the anti-surveillance infrastructure they are focusing on. The software and configuration choices are today's best-of-breed for making surveillance and seizure more difficult. This naturally includes not utilizing commercial solutions, and also naturally includes self-hosting the infrastructure. ER is a global movement that is highly decentralized and, according to the first 28 minutes of the talk, is having an impact. This is primarily through non-violent actions. They mainly seek progress on combating climate change. https://rebellion.global or https://organize.earth for more info.

The purpose of the Project is to encourage research and public discussion on the potential advantages of a digital dollar, convene private sector thought leaders and actors, and propose possible models to support the public sector. The Project will develop a framework for potential, practical steps that can be taken to establish a dollar CBDC. Digital Dollar Project Announcement The Digital Dollar Foundation and Accenture Announce the Launch Of The Digital Dollar Project Image_Hero_1_top.jpg Washington, D.C., Jan. 16, 2020 – “The digital 21st century is underserved by an analog reserve currency,” said Chris Giancarlo. “A digital dollar would help future-proof the greenback and allow individuals and global enterprises to make payments in dollars irrespective of space and time. We are launching the Digital Dollar Project to catalyze a digital, tokenized U.S. currency that would coexist with other Federal Reserve liabilities and serve as a settlement medium to meet the demands of the new digital world and a cheaper, faster and more inclusive global financial system.” The purpose of the Project is to encourage research and public discussion on the potential advantages of a digital dollar, convene private sector thought leaders and actors, and propose possible models to support the public sector. The Project will develop a framework for potential, practical steps that can be taken to establish a dollar CBDC. Press Release Image_break_2_Davos.jpg Digital Dollar Project Issue Briefing The time has come to explore options for a digital dollar, and the principal members of the Digital Dollar Foundation (The Foundation) have sounded the call for this needed dollar innovation. Together with Accenture, a global leader in CBDC advancement, the Foundation has formed the “Digital Dollar Project” (the Project) to study potential avenues to utilize U.S. digital dollar tokenization and its implications on the U.S. and global economic and financial systems. The Project will seek to facilitate a public debate about a U.S. dollar CBDC adoption. To ensure the dollar can serve the broadest possible range of uses in a increasingly digital global economy and thereby maintain its privileged position and support orderly adjustment in international monetary relations, consideration needs to be given to plans to adopt a digital dollar issued by the Federal Reserve System (Fed). Project Brief Image_break_3.jpg Project Directors The Digital Dollar Project has been created to formally lead the initiative of educating policy makers, organizing key industry stakeholders, and proposing a U.S. CBDC strategy.
