Pursuant to our liaison relationship and work register, DMTF has asked us to distribute the following information about their annual academic alliance workshop.
6th International DMTF Academic Alliance Workshop on
Systems and Virtualization Management: Standards and the Cloud

This conference will occur approximately two weeks after our own OGF36 (Chicago, IL USA, October 8-10, 2012), which will be held, according to current plans, in conjunction with eScience 2012 with workshops (including the Microsoft eScience Workshop) on 8-9 October and the main conference events on 10-12 October. Venue details are still being settled.

Regarding DMTF and SVM12, please note that academic membership including participation in one DMTF working group is available at no cost upon application to individual academic members. The attached file contains the minimal information needed to request academic membership.
Note we also have an ongoing work register related to OCCI that is currently dormant, but could be reactivated at any time. DMTF continues to make progress towards publication of CIMI, its cloud infrastructure management interface, which is closely related to OCCI in principle. We continue to look for volunteers within the OGF community who are willing to spend time comparing the published features of CIMI with OCCI for the benefit of both communities.
Paper submissions to SVM12 on any topic of interest to yourself would be welcomed. Please see the notes in the messages below for details.
Finally, please take note that registration is now available (in Euros!) for OGF 35 in Delft June 17-19, 2012 just prior to the High Performance Distributed Computing (HPDC) 2012 conference in the same location:

Please take note of all appropriate deadlines for the above events.
We do expect to hold a pre-conference Plugfest to promote interoperability among implementations and interchange among developers prior to OGF 35. Details of the event are still being finalized and will be announced shortly. What we know so far is that this will include a Cloud Plugfest - the fifth in our series coordinated with members of the standards community - and that the pre-event plug-fest will be held in Amsterdam during the last portion of the week immediately prior to the OGF35/HPDC'12 event. A further announcement will be made shortly, once some room coordination details are worked out.

I think it would be fine to post your call for papers to our academic
list as well.
We have had good success partnering with CNSM as our authors and
audiences have common research interests. When it comes to cloud though
we should involve them in the discussions of whether we could align
several of our cloud related academic conferences around the same
location and time period. Basically have them back to back to back at
the same venue to leverage room blocks, etc. for the organizers and
travel for the speakers/attendees.

Call for Papers and Call for Posters
The DMTF Academic Alliance announces the creation of the sixth workshop dedicated to academic research on standards and new technologies for systems and virtualization management. This event comes in addition to the technical and developers' events organized for several years by the DMTF, and will take place on October 26th in Las Vegas, Nevada USA. We will be holding a poster session in addition to the workshop.
The primary theme of SVM 2012 will be "Systems and Virtualization Management: Standards and the Cloud". With the advent and increasing popularity of Cloud Computing, systems management and virtualization management technology has taken on increasing importance. The goal of SVM 2012 is to illuminate related standards and research issues, covering areas such as: what are the implications of standards for virtualization in Cloud Computing, what advances in information models and protocols aid in managing Clouds, what new problems will we incur when managing Cloud offerings and services, and how management itself might benefit from virtualization and the Cloud. Submissions on topics related to managing Clouds, virtualization of distributed resources/services and work in management standardization are thus particularly encouraged.
Papers submitted to SVM'12 must not have been published, accepted for publication, or be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Submission for Posters

Authors of accepted papers to SVM 2012 are encouraged to submit a poster on the same topic as their paper. People are also encouraged to submit a poster, even without submitting a paper to the workshop.

The Academic Alliance membership is a free membership for individuals of accredited institutions of higher learning. Academic Alliance Members have access to the DMTF members-only Web pages and member email lists. Academic Alliance Members are eligible to participate in DMTF working groups as non-voting members, and in the DMTF Marketing and Technical Committees as non-voting members.
