1. New Groups Approved

Two new groups have been approved by the Grid Forum Steering Group (GFSG).
First, the OGSA-D-WG was formed to develop the data architecture associated
with OGSA. Spawned from the OGSA-WG Data design team, Dave Berry (National
eScience Center, UK) and Allen Luniewski (IBM) will co-chair this new
working group. The email list is ogsa-d-wg at ggf.org and the GridForge
project will be available soon: http://forge.ggf.org/projects/ogsa-d-wg.
Second, the ByteIO-WG was formed to define a Web Service interface for
reading and writing sequences of bytes into various sources and
destinations. Also spawned from the OGSA-WG Data design team, Mark Morgan
(University of Virginia) and Neil Chue Hong (EPCC, University of Edinburgh)
will co-chair this new working group. The email list is byteio-wg at ggf.org
and the GridForge project will be available soon:
http://forge.ggf.org/projects/byteio-wg.

2. GGF14

June 26-29, 2005 are the dates for GGF14 in Chicago, IL, USA. Registration
will open on May 3 for this standards and community oriented event. The
call for participation for workshops is open until May 6 and for
community-oriented talks, May 11 (see
http://www.ggf.org/Meetings/GGF14/GGF14.htm). Plan now to attend.

3. Telco Focus at Supercomm 2005

GGF will continue its focus on grid technologies and their impact on the
Telecommunication industry with a focus session during the upcoming
Supercomm 2005 (Chicago, June 6-9). The Monday, June 6, session will
feature representatives from numerous regional and national telco operators
and vendors. Details of the meeting and the agenda will be made available
soon on the GGF website (www.ggf.org). For more information, contact
communities at ggf.org.

4. GGF Operating Model Enhancements

Introduced by Mark Linesch at GGF13 in Seoul, the GFSG has recommended a
set of enhancements to the current GGF operating model. A document
describing these recommendations is available for download at:
http://www.ggf.org/documents/Drafts/GGF_Prop_Op_Model.pdf
Comments are welcome and can be sent directly to Mark at linesch at ggf.org.

5. Spring Grid Connections

In the Spring edition of the Grid Connections newsletter (attached), Mark
Linesch, David Snelling, and Geoffrey Fox discuss the Standards and
Community aspects of the GGF mission.

6. NOMCOM Update

The Global Grid Forum (GGF) Nominations Committee is soliciting nominations
for the open positions on the Grid Forum Steering Group
(GFSG). You can read the details at http://www.gridforum.org/nomcom. A
unique opportunity exists now to become part of the new leadership team of
GGF during 2005. In addition to continuing our important standards efforts,
we are working to strengthen and expand communities of interest in
GGF. Also, we are introducing new opportunities for leadership in the GGF
operations. Please consider who you would like to see in the GGF
leadership and send nominations to nomcom at ggf.org. Self nominations are
also encouraged. The deadline is Friday, May 20, 2005.
