Publisher A content provider that advertises and publishes its
contents in accordance to the subscription rules.
<AD>

It doesn't have to be a content provider and subscriptions are optional.
So how about:

A publisher is an entity that is capable of creating messages in
response to an event that it is capable of detecting. The publisher does
not have to have (or be) an endpoint. The publisher may support the
ability to define what constitutes an event is and what message is
created as a result, in this case the publisher must have an endpoint.
The publisher may deliver messages to consumers or it may delegate that
function to a disseminator.

</AD>
Consumer A recipient of published contents. The contents are
obtained as a result of evaluation of a subscription against a single or
multiple publications.
 <AD>

Should we say it has to have an endpoint? Again are subscriptions
required?

</AD>
Subscriber An intermediary used to establish and controls the
flow of publications (by means of subscription rules) - between a
publisher/set of publishers and a consumer.

<AD>

intermediary is the wrong word. How about entity. Primarily it controls
the flow of messages but in infoD it may control publishers.

</AD>

Broker A message routing intermediary for publishers and
consumers, used for match making the list of publication types and
subscriptions.

<AD>

I think we use disseminator n infoD

</AD>

Propagator A component that retains publications produced for a
subscription. It also provides the access mechanism for a deferred
consumption.
<AD>

I don't quite understand this

</AD>
Continuous Query Unlike normal queries that evaluate the state as
of a snapshot in time, continuous queries evaluate the expression for a
period of time. Continuous queries produce incremental results as the
data becomes available.

Pushing A propagation mechanism in which the communication is
initiated by the publisher of data/publications.

Pulling A propagation mechanism in which the communication is
initiated by the consumer of data/publications.

Polling A propagation mechanism in which the consumer/publisher
initiates the communication to validate the "state" of the recipients.
<AD>don't quite understand this </AD>
Action In Event-Condition-Action paradigm, an action denotes the
declarative statement that needs to be executed when a certain condition
is met by the published event.

<AD>need to define ECA paradigm, published event </AD>

Event Correlation
Content A content based correlation verifies a prescribed
condition against the contents of two messages produced either by the
same publisher or different publishers.

Event Correlation
Creation A correlation that verifies a prescribed condition
against the publication types of two or more publications/messages.

Type System An enumeration that defines the list of acceptable
value domains, their value ranges and binary representation in a digital
system.

Language A common shared expression list used to specify a list
of principles (tokens) and the operations permitted on these tokens.

Registry A repository of resource advertisement used primarily
for match making between resource providers and resource consumers.

History A persistent and temporal record of previously
encountered publications/messages.

Latest queries A causally ordered list of most recent queries
processed by the entity.

Mediation A match making mechanism used for filtering resource
advertisements in accordance to resource queries.

Primary and Secondary Producers: Where is it used in the document?

Profiles Resource description of an entity.

Demand Driven Publishing A publication mechanism in which publications
are made available only if there exists a set of consumers for that
publication.

Targeted Publishing A publication mechanism in which a publisher
commences to publish the contents in response to demand from consumers.
