Colin,

UC/ANL TeraGrid GT4 client software and our services use  
GLOBUS_TCP_PORT_RANGE
of "50000,51000".

What range does the firewall that your clients are sitting behind  
have open?
The GLOBUS_TCP_PORT_RANGE on your clients should be set to that open  
range.
