Scope and Content
-----------------

The Grid provides us with the ability to create a vastly different
model of data integration allowing support for dynamic, late-binding
access to distributed, heterogeneous data resources. However the
opportunities to exploit these new methods of data integration also
produce many issues and open questions.

This workshop brings together e-Science projects working on solving data
integration problems using Grid techniques and technologies. It aims to
present and disseminate the current status of grid data integration and
allow the identification of common issues and gaps. In particular, it
aims to:

 o Present the problems of data integration met in different domains.
 o Present and exchange solutions developed.
 o Facilitate future integration efforts by identifying issues common to 
   data integration.

Issues to be considered by contributors to this mini-workshop are:

 o What are the common patterns in data integration?
 o What are the current challenges to data integration?
 o What are the main architectural issues to providing seamless data 
   integration?
 o How do the emerging set of Web Services / Semantic Web standards assist 
   the needs of distributed data management and integration?
 o What requirements do we have on metadata to support data integration
 o What tools and technologies are still required to make data integration 
   work?
 o Does the Grid provide a fundamentally different model of access to 
   distributed data?

The expected audience are all those working on projects which involve
data integration, especially those seeking to identify potential
solutions and issues in the current and short-term versions of grid
middleware.

Presentations should be up to 20 minutes including time for questions
and answers.  

Submission of Abstracts
-----------------------

Abstract and paper submissions will be subject to the same reviewing
procedure as regular AHM papers. When submitting papers to the AHM you
will be asked to submit their paper as either a regular AHM paper, or
for consideration for a specific workshop. Clearly you should ask to be
considered for the data integration mini workshop. High quality
workshop papers that are judged to be unsuitable for the workshop to
which they are submitted will automatically be considered as regular
papers.
