Are there crypto discussions on this forum
Hi, I am Igor Chudov, a great while ago I was involved in running this mailing list via my proposal of a distributed list. Then junk messages became too time consuming and I got busy. I decided to subscribe to take a peek recently, and wanted to ask if this mailing list has bona fide discussions of cryptography, its role in the modern economy, finance and politics, etc. Thanks

I try to post security technology-related items. I don't see much response and get trolled often. Recently: "Ride for Free! Hackers Hold SF's MTA's Computer Network Hostage For $73k Ransom" with some details of the hack. "Dave? Dave? What are you doing Dave? - 'Robot Smashes Booth, Injures Man at Tech Fair'" Today: "Technocracy: "...all of us went along with it, because the simplicity was reassuring.", with links to some awesome neo-philosophical thoughts on technology by Adam Curtis. I end up getting responses like On 11/27/2016 07:22 PM, juan wrote:

Rr Ps. This was never a cryptography list. Pps: This list seems to be infested by right-wing libertarian feudalists who think they're anarchists, but I'm used to that from living near Silicon Valley for 40 years. Some think they're hippies cause they're hipsters, too. It was fun watching a drug discussion a while back. Maybe the list will self-correct after a while if enough of them believe their own bs powder drug fantasies and croak.
Hi, Igor. Welcome back to the CypherPunk List! :D I am Ceci, a crazy noob from Brazil. Nice to meet you! :) Please, choose your favorite cryptography, security, privacy, coding, A.I., Math, etc, etc, subjects and share interesting informations, good and bad news, your personal ideas, curious bibliography... No limits, my dear, but I sincerely suggest you lots of patience and some sense of humour. The list has no moderation. You have free will to express your convictions and need to have good sense enough to self-moderate yourself. Or not, your option only. ;) Like my loved Mirimir mentioned before, there are some stupid trolls and a lot of garbage, but we can make this list better, bringing interesting considerations about relevant themes. Believe me, in the middle of all the junk and the trash, there are great people hidden here, some provocative discussions and singular delightful messages. Please, feel free and comfortable to talk about everything! Good luck and be happy! :D Ceci -- "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Sorry for being so silent and late, my dear Razer . Had really bad times and spent several days in the hospital, with pain and almost no access to internet. Still very hurt, physically and emotionally, but my ex-boyfriend always used to say that I am survivor, an eternal lone wolf. Unhappily, he is right. The only way this list can get "bona fide discussions of cryptography, its role in the modern economy, finance and politics, etc." is if people start posting relevant information, announcements, links to resources, etc. CPunks now provides a pass/fail course in how to communicate in an environment flooded with spurious signals, spoofing and straight up noise. It really depends on what you're looking for in the way of lists. All code and (lets say) no "Robot escapes and injures human" make lists dull, and dull minds stick together. Otoh, having participated in other lists that seriously degenerated I'd say this one is pretty bad right. I might not be a state of the art coder but I do have interest in the topic and wouldn't stick around for alist that was all bot-spew (aff... cece) and medicated rants (Fucking nazi commie blah blah).. Use filters. I'm sure there a few people here who don't like my anti-libertard statements and I have a few semi-autonomous bots on mine,. Easy to do, and save reading people's whines... Now, here's something mildly entertaining. Those are the same whiners who constantly post off topic garbage themselves while whining about off topic garbage being posted.
Just to add to the discussion if we're busy justifying our existence to the whiners... A while back there was an active discussion of open source hardware and 'openfabs' (I took part in that too). But more recently (although not quite meeting the openfab ideal) a cool little piece of open source hardware appeared based on the RISC V instruction set... https://www.sifive.com/ Feel free to discuss, whiners are invited too :P Cheers, oshwm. I vastly prefer a well-moderated list to the alternatives.
Now, here's something mildly entertaining. Somebody started a 'technical' discussion :
https://lists.cpunks.org/pipermail/cypherpunks/2016-November/033946.html
Aaaannnd, the only one who bothered to reply was...me (my reply was spot on, technically speaking, by the way)
None of the whiners who constantly whine about lack of 'technical' discussion replied. Those are the same whiners who constantly post off topic garbage themselves while whining about off topic garbage being posted.

A while back there was an active discussion of open source hardware and 'openfabs' (I took part in that too). But more recently (although not quite meeting the openfab ideal) a cool little piece of open source hardware appeared based on the RISC V instruction set...
Feel free to discuss, whiners are invited too :P

Its always good to have choice :) It looked tome lime SiFive actually have some early boards ready to ship. The only issue with both of these is the potential for backdoors in the hardware when they're shipped compared to the sources. Without Openfabs with ability for interested ppl to go in unannounced to check/audit then we can't escape this risk.

The problem with all the open source IC stuff open fabs etc is, as I understand it, it's dogshit slow compared to our unvetted back doored Intel & friends. But, surely it's the future (if there is a future). As printers get better and better... democratization of the silicon. Anyone will be able to fab up whatever shit they need at home or at shop down the road. Gibson's the Peripheral has an interesting near future like this. -- Sent from my Android device with K-9 Mail. Enlighten me. How's your protocol for cyber-fascism supposed to work? Are you planning to not only to censor people, but to have them pay in advance for the 'privilege' of freely speaking, and then stealing their money wheh they say something you fascists don't like? Or what? By the way, congrats Steven. Your fuckingly retarded 'libertarian' babbling about the founding fuckers did give you away a while back...

Subscribe and attempt to have useful conversations, if you are up for an audit and upgrade of your capabilities in these areas.
Or just go to the Cryptography list, which covers the more technical items among the topical interests you list above.

Postscript: A constructive suggestion. Set up a shiny new list accessible only through the i2p network. Go there and look around; Eternal September has not arrived, because the setup and normal operation of an i2p router are barriers to the technically illiterate. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (GNU/Linux) iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJYPsIbAAoJEECU6c5XzmuqjeoH/03liz/2f5SQucKxPu71FD20 ZCidFF8EqyBS5W3TabrAVymzH8UJQce/vkOBFTJCM0qyC8ZGmA9trBxI2oLC/Tw0 0/Sk0akxOrdj48/3CGbCZsb9pRXjDqmczdru9BQcofGfd5TV22gXQTjM7qnNkXks 3jttTdKhe11Sy+yqLMP1zbf2tU54ByOukgMy0bHjmGvOvQtu65RMdktF+l6jPmMy fWybYsZzse2k+539x754AnXD3WOtRW/5rVmS0TmlHg+6EVUVoozk46cU8J0WqDQw /pq1/rjWG0mEvxOlLN2YGlu1km8qeXVePS5jVNgx1xeINJhcbYPoBVzUpzsS1mc= =3haN -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
