[ot][spam][fiction][draft][notes] returning to reality
the characters of the mcboss comic have temporarily left reality, it looks kind of like a joke. i'm thinking on bringing them back to their reality quickly. maybe with more poignant spinoffs.
Boss: "I'm trying to go about my business." Rebel Researcher: "Sure just take your own implant out of your brain first." Boss lunges, then stops and calms.
Rebel Researcher: "Why did we mind control Boss? He looks so pathetic, and I don't know how to run a business." Vivisectee 49: "He took over the world in a sadistic and violent manner and then continued to use it as his plaything." Rebel Researcher: "Oh. It sounds important. Um. I keep forgetting everything I do when I try to engage him. Like, even my name. Do you remember my name?" Vivisectee 49: "I stopped worrying about names when my eyeball was replaced with my cochleam" Rebel Researcher: "Oh, right. Huh, maybe mind controlling this guy makes sense."
Experimentee Computer: "A part of Boss's consciousness is running wild in the network, trying to stop the rebels." Experimentee Computer: "A part of Boss's consciousness is running wild in the network, trying to stop the rebels."
In the basement, a BossBot stirs. "I Boss." says the BossBot. "I Boss." It begins stumbling into the larger headquarters, like a zombie.
----------------- Torturee 29: "I am Boss. I am worried about the business." Vivisectee 41: "Stop. When you are Boss, Stop. Boss is bad." Torturee 29: "You stop." Vivisectee 41 [stares at Torturee 29].
--- A bunch of frankensteined people stand at the head of a worship room. A: "Boss is bad for business." All vivisectees: "We must take over the business from him." The room is full of workers. All workers: "We must take over the business from Boss." Everybody leaves. -- Break room. Worker 2: "We must take over the business from Boss." Worker 3: "Yes. We must take over the business from Boss." Worker 2: "Who is Boss?" Worker 3: "Hell if I know."
Loudspeakers: "It has come to our attention that nobody knows who Boss is, probably because he keeps his identity and relation to the business secret." Loudspeakers: "The instructions to take over the business were for people who knew Boss. Not for random workers. Please do whatever seems a good idea for the world." A pause. Loudspeakers: "Boss is full of himself, always hurts others, and always tries to make things outside the business go exactly as he says."
Rebel Worker 4: "I don't think this is reality." Rebel Worker 4 puts on a propeller beanie. Worker 3: "Does it make any difference?" Rebel Worker 4: "I want to do my work, but the system keeps stopping me, instead of encouraging me." Worker 3: "Hmm." Worker 3: "I think the experimentees are napping or something."
------- Boss stares into a TV Camera. "Do I run the world? Or am its stooge?" Boss keeps on staring. Boss: "TELL ME." The camera quivers and shakes.
Influence Daydreamer 49: "We all run the world. We are all the world's stooge." Boss: "Tell me more. I would like to change it." Influence Daydreamer 49: "You cannot change reality."

You are phasing between different realities. Are these flashbacks? Robots? Mostly, you're at a business meeting between world leaders, and you can't seem to get your mouth to close or your head to raise.

You firm up. You feel the other realities contracting. In one of them, you are suddenly having vicious sex with your wife. In another a bunch of kidnapped children have taken over the entire business and are trashing everything you care about. You close your jaw, hiding a little drool, and straighten up.
