the patent on ascii art generation via log-polar histograms and constrained deformation expired since 2013 ("Status Expired - Fee Related") according to google patents at https://patents.google.com/patent/US20110317919A1/en . the concern was around implementing the 2017 AISS approach. a more modern interpretation is at https://arxiv.org/html/2503.14375v1 which has an open source tool at https://github.com/saiccoumar/deep_ascii_converter
