FYI, the day after the Markoff piece ran in the NYT, The Baltimore Sun ran an article debunking it, based on independent reporting. Generalizing about reporters is about as intellectually valid as generalizing about hackers. Michael Dresser, who wrote it (speaking for myself, not my employer)
