RE: House National Security committee guts SAFE, worse than no bill
I hate to tip folks off as to my column for tomorrow, but that's exactly what I'm doing in it. I have written that if the Feds try to impose key-recovery crypto on me, I'll start using some encryption program that doesn't comply with the law, and I'll send copies of the messages to the Feds, so they can come and arrest me. If I really thought they would, I wouldn't have written it! But I'll stand by it. Anyway, I don't presently encrypt my mail. No reason to--I ain't no pedophile...;-) So if I want to send crypto I must find some partner in crime. Any volunteers? Hiawatha Bray Technology Reporter Boston Globe P.O. Me. Whatever anyone else does, I'm going to first... ignore any government mandates or law on crypto [use it anyway] then, challenge them... and finally, defy them. Period. That's where I'm at. And, I'm going to tell them that's what I'm going to do. On any website I can.
Larry.

Sign me up, Hiawatha. I'll send mail back, too. And as long as I have your attention, here's another thing that occurred to me. Hawaii's Rep. Abercrombie yesterday suggested that the mere 10 years in prison that await crypto exporters aren't nearly enough. Sending PGP abroad, he says, ought to be punished with far more than that. Fair 'nuff. I wonder how many people might be willing to sign a petition stating they have exported crypto - something to deserve 10 years in the slammer? Surely 1,000 people or more off the lists represented here? I suppose Vincent Cate's crypto export page would give people a feel for how it works before they move their way up to the big leagues? Cate, of course, is at: http://online.offshore.com.ai/arms- trafficker/ While you're all pondering possible civil disobedience, here's my public key. - -----BEGIN PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK----- Version: PGP for Personal Privacy 5.0 mQGiBDPOVAARBAD/Kgzb/n6l9C0S64znmcbnf/ccKCU0a69hpf87obTstJbvgkpT 6/5vd2L4uI9SxnLxY3BxfyW79xC1x45fbZ+ULILtdTAkpo7J7Jwa4+sP6yqUOoBC YlcWY8/QzviaUwOpd8gLqvILAmH89CPwE+1CkBrTuDFhq/eFFz3vBwIAPwCg/wgA X9C8pVkkIP7oxf4jNb80t6UEALkqz18TXGvV4GIe8OzuJE8IwdHxYF1TveDU1S7q Ieu49w0TQ8BFVRNmX6w8kUhD3hDB9bPfsrMP9YcdLZjhzH3It1bmxrEXpfyJ89vM IBPWx4ACR4zv9w1ugFHE8hYbpW/9f2kJ+2qeILCgf9dV8cjcyfg/9T7HU5lFr+ss /Ky/A/40h2dwJJxslyWLEmwQpAQyvzuAhKwgy58p2o3NhroEis/212itSAzO+D/F OD9Z2ytXPpvuYCAfJY2qwdEi2VSyiqmKE2S24HI2KBWCjkTSKlDVyabfVPd4+P2m j8rhfmW/7cHJ5rqyHZeXsx5UoTYbjI3FOI9rmdwf2lRUg3wm2bQrV2lsbGlhbSBB LiBSb2RnZXIgPHJvZGdlckB3b3JsZG5ldC5hdHQubmV0PokASwQQEQIACwUCM85U AAQLAwECAAoJENZgKT/Hvj9iArsAni5+AbNd1frytNMXUi8WCiyEuPzdAKDLYIUR XYf7eNfeiBmF4oQylc8txokBFQMFEDPOVCtHAco0+Z/i2QEB6lQH/AmzqGzIrYau cvNIRP+AUvBQouVqOdjQyqLuyaGFLGNXB+qaOdBO70HT1T/Zq0fcJtGe/fW0CQcL +MBpWWY7ITkgd8HgkaFdEaZ4mpE/TXM6Bw/Oeo2sHtKeLaXm6i1uSU9ar9jDPsdX Ea8PuldQmbouRBUamzJIaurnpv+t8Slc2PGWICumfyXqk1kaCgliln9LwWHP94qa XtFctXwVEDfy9JRo7Dara6BJflDzKvhYT09h8McQqY0xakCBJbq90Im6nbzSLnin UBevClU05ANXllfNf73a+3DzoJiGp/fFZzYOMA1bfhOiw37OmnyF9ZhoeTcmAtON bsglZHhH2fK5Ag0EM85UABAIAPZCV7cIfwgXcqK61qlC8wXo+VMROU+28W65Szgg 2gGnVqMU6Y9AVfPQB8bLQ6mUrfdMZIZJ+AyDvWXpF9Sh01D49Vlf3HZSTz09jdvO meFXklnN/biudE/F/Ha8g8VHMGHOfMlm/xX5u/2RXscBqtNbno2gpXI61Brwv0YA WCvl9Ij9WE5J280gtJ3kkQc2azNsOA1FHQ98iLMcfFstjvbzySPAQ/ClWxiNjrtV jLhdONM0/XwXV0OjHRhs3jMhLLUq/zzhsSlAGBGNfISnCnLWhsQDGcgHKXrKlQzZ lp+r0ApQmwJG0wg9ZqRdQZ+cfL2JSyIZJrqrol7DVekyCzsAAgIH/1NVspbusyzJ 9c0FuzHg1oQ2yg0cCdxbuaJlY0vZyGj/V5dJ1csL38OGqTjxmOALZ20CFGfJbDTu tVYdRX9MEeI95yy3kSVRdxySBapMGXoGAZudAt1xcnD+lPOrZ3ZYJjfo5Zw60Cp2 JT3ThaBl2YOGgBsJBbmGvM3FUsvnsRrDnntABMF5hJs8ahcv6oVAM621T3B00+tI fQk3IkEMuQDYFV/PTaP8wkILqEPdOhEfxgzeK8o4ZIBB2hX3/DyZYI7zTMvYd1nZ XybzU6xONSlljFFx7u5DKubwVikPCY8bdbHvuuna9bTr08dS0jDVWSTvqDA9ebhI iCsFlc8m2rGJAD8DBRgzzlQB1mApP8e+P2IRAoy1AJ45zNvfY9dKOVfiojFL9RnL YzXgQACfYlO4Dd8zeICU1fd4iIaactk1S5g= =vuty - -----END PGP PUBLIC KEY BLOCK----- And here's my sig.
