[wg-all] OGF Announces New VP for Standards: Dr. Alan Sill

Following an open call and selection by community nominated representatives on OGF’s NomCom (http://www.ogf.org/nomcom/), OGF is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alan Sill to the position of Vice President for Standards.  Dr. Sill is a Senior Scientist at Texas Tech University.  He has coordinated large-scale development projects for grid and distributed computing for the past decade, including database and distributed data access for high energy physics experiments and coordinating the creation of large-scale, multi-Teraflop systems for computation for such experiments.  He was involved in the early stages of the formation of the Open Science Grid and Texas Internet Grid for Research and Education (TIGRE) at Texas Tech University and in distributed computing for the Collider Detector at Fermilab.
 
“I’m delighted to welcome Alan to position of OGF Standards VP” said Steven Newhouse, Chairman of the OGF Board of Directors. “He brings the experience, maturity, and leadership qualities that will make him an effective VP Standards while at the same time injecting a fresh perspective to the work of the standards council.”

Alan Sill replaces Chris Smith from Platform Computing who has led the OGF standards activities during his three year term of office. Our thanks to Chris for all his work during his time as VP Standards and to Platform Computing for supporting his work within the OGF community.
