Call attendees:
- Chris Kantarjiev - Oracle
- Fred Maciel - Hitachi Data Systems
- Vincent Franceschini - Hitachi Data Systems
* Debriefing from SNW-Orlando'06
Vincent gave a brief update about the Grid-related activities at SNW
last week in Orlando. All Grid sessions were well attended. The Grid
Panel organized by the SNIA Grid Taskforce showed great interest from
the audience about Grid and how to approach it. Comments from end-users
from eBay (Paul Strong), Boeing (John Hurley) and Microsoft (Chris
Lionetti) really helped to highlight the scope of grid solutions. Alan
Yoder and VincentF helped positioning the role of the storage industry
in Grid.
Action item: For Vincent and Alan (and possibly Ken who attended the
panel) to write a little summary report about the panel to forward to
the OGF data area (David Martin).
* Presence at OGF19
OGF19 overlaps 100% with SNIA Winter Symposium. The current plan is to
attend the SNIA Symposium on Mon,Tue, and to attend OGF19 on Wed, Thurs.
Currently we have a 90mn session planned on Thursday. Vincent will
confirm meeting requirements with OGF19 coordinators.
We had originally planned to have an SMI-S education session organized
at OGF19. Given the overlap with SNIA Symposium, we need to double-check
if we can get the right SNIA speaker/instructor before requesting any
extra meeting slot at OGF19.
Action items:
- For Vincent, Alan and Ken to identify an SMI-S technical
speaker.
- For Vincent to confirm meeting requirement for SMI-S
education with OGF19.
* Storage GME project
No further relevant application example was brought forward to help with
use case scenarios.
Vincent asked if we could leverage any of the discussion in the OGSA-WG
with regards to the work done around the HPC profile for the GME. Chris
said that it was still too early.
Since our initial scenarios include only FS-based elements, suggestion
was made to invite other participants from the Data Area to give their
inputs to the S-GME project (e.g. GFS-WG).
Action item: For Ken to contact Arun Jagatheesan [arun at sdsc.edu] to
discuss a possible participation.
Call participants concurred on targeting OGF19 as the right objective to
present a draft SGME project plan.
Next call - same day, same time, next week.
Thank you.
