PLEASE let us not go this path.
Besides, it is not clear (from their website, at least not to me) what
the privacy and use conditions are fro our provided long URLs.

Sounds as we've come back full circle to hardly-mnemonic telephone numbers :-)
This wasn't Tim Berners-Lee's vision for a human-readable WWW.
It's a pity that users still have to suffer those wrap-around text issues (poor standard or poor implementation?)
With that problem resolved, even the tiny PDAs nowadays afford cut&paste commands and shortcuts to deal with long URLs.
Apologies for the off-charter posting.

Hi all,
At the last SCRM-WG call on Aug. 8, I took an action item to
explain TinyURL.
TinyURL is a free service which creates short URL from long URL.
http://tinyurl.com/ <http://tinyurl.com/>
When you upload your file to GridForge, GridFroge gives you a
unique but rather long and easy to break in multiple lines URL like;
https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/scrm/document/spec-summry-template/en/2 <https://forge.gridforum.org/projects/scrm/document/spec-summry-template/en/2>
In order to avoid posting un-clickable URL, Visit tinyurl.com and put
your long URL into "Enter a long URL to make tiny:" field of their page
and hit the "Make TinyURL!" button. Then TinyURL gives you a short and
handy URL like the following.
http://tinyurl.com/dypet <http://tinyurl.com/dypet>
This URL works just like your long URL and never expires.
p.s.
Jay and Mark will post meeting minutes of the Aug. 8th call shortly.
Thanks,
