Hi everyone,

Last week I presented OCCI at the IGT2009 conference and participated
in a short panel discussion about cloud standards, moderated by Reuven
Cohen and including a representative of the Zend Simple Cloud API.

Here are the slides:

The panel discussion touched on these three questions:

1) What is the driver for cloud standards - do businesses really want them?
I said that the main driver for standardization is coming from the
Government. Now that they need to buy cloud, and to define it before
they can buy it, standards will be needed in order to fulfill
Government purchasing requirements.

2) Why not just use the existing de-facto standards such as the EC2
API, as opposed to creating de-jure standards?
I said that we need to focus on the vision: the vision is "open cloud"
and a healthy ecosystem. The current de-facto standard is not
compatible with that vision, since it is IP encumbered. Instead we
need to push for an open standard.

3) Why don't you two guys (OCCI and Simple Cloud API) work together?
I smiled, reached over, and shook the Simple Cloud API rep's hand.

Shlomo
