OK. (After a bit of thinking I convinced myself that it is indeed not 
needed for unidirectional).

I agree. We can either specify it explicitely, or make a default.

IMHO the only option that makes sense as a default is to connect the port 
inwards (in the other case, one just uses the demarcation point).
