I missed the call last week (because I love sitting in airplanes), but 
could you please explain why we need two phase reserve? (and modify as 
well though that one makes more sense).

IDCP have two phase ... everything (more or less), and the main result of 
this was that the implementations became extremely complex and error 
handling even worse (often lacking).

Two phase looks really nice from a distance. Until you are in the middle 
of it and there are crying babies and bleeding people everywhere :-).
