To add to what I've said before, my focus would be on publishers and consumers, i.e. 2.0 publishers should continue to work if the schema is upgraded to 2.1, and consumers which query for 2.0 objects and attributes should also continue to work (consumers which query for all data may have to digest unexpected input, I think that's unavoidable). In LDAP that's fairly easy because neither publishers nor consumers reference the schema explicitly, basically because the LDIF data format doesn't do so. If other formats are more restrictive we need to understand what the consequences are.

I'd say you're being quite optimistic there! Even if the plane hits the ground at 7 you can easily spend half an hour taxiing before you leave the plane and another 30-60 minutes to get out of the airport, then half an hour or so on the Heathrow Express to Paddington and another half hour to UCL (I think you said?).
