Hi JP, 
Thanks for considering the proposal. Yes, I guess the abstract element/xsd:substitution group concept is pretty generic and could also be applied to other elements (incidentally, we used these concepts in the JSDL Parameter Sweep spec also). A call in the next 2-3 weeks would be good.
