Apologies for a slightly off-topic message. My organization, ARSC, is
seeking postdoctoral fellow nominations. I would be thrilled to
receive nominations for recent PhDs interested in Grid computing,
data-intensive applications, information retrieval, database systems,
and related areas. If you're in an academic institution, or have
academic ties, I hope you might be able to forward this to appropriate
persons.

The deadline for nominations is February 15, with positions starting
in summer or fall. The announcement follows:

		 Arctic Region Supercomputing Center
	      Distinguished Fellows Program Announcement

The Arctic Region Supercomputing Center (ARSC) is pleased to announce
the availability of several postdoctoral fellowships for the academic
year starting in September of 2005. Since its inception in 1993, ARSC
has served the computational needs of University of Alaska and the
Department of Defense (DoD) as a Shared Resource Center within the
DoD's High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). ARSC
has several state-of-the-art computers including a Cray X1 and an IBM
p690+/p655+, which will be available for use by the fellows. ARSC is
located on the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) campus in
Fairbanks, Alaska, and is an integral part of the vibrant research
fabric of the University. Because of its unique location and mission,
ARSC prefers a candidate whose research has deep implications for high
latitude and Arctic areas, but will consider exceptionally well-
qualified candidates with research interests in any area.

The goal of the Fellows program is to support the most talented
scientists in the early stage of their careers and to provide an
intellectual environment in which they can pursue a research agenda of
their own choosing. In addition to a highly competitive salary, each
fellow will receive travel and discretionary research funding. In
addition, ARSC will make available a variety of mentoring
opportunities, including interactions with senior faculty and
distinguished visitors. Each fellow will receive a three-year term
appointment with the possibility of renewal for another two years.

Candidates for these fellowships must be nominated by a university
faculty member or a staff member of a national laboratory. Nominations
must be received by the 15th of February 2005. ARSC will select a
subset of the nominees and contact them for curriculum vitae, letters
of reference, and an outline of proposed research. Finalists will be
invited to ARSC to present a seminar and meet with senior faculty at
UAF. Successful candidates will be notified by the end of April 2005.
