[DFDL-WG] DFDL trademarked?

Hi Mike,

We wouldn't have taken any action like this unless requested by the group itself. Note that name collisions, including and especially abbreviations, are not uncommon (hence the renaming of the Condor scheduler as High Throughput Condor = HTCondor), etc.

We can let you control the content of https://ogf.org/dfdl/ however. The content there was created under docuwiki and included on the conversion of the OGF web site, but is now maintained in its translated html format. If you prefer, we can create a subdomain of dfdl.ogf.org<http://dfdl.ogf.org/> and you can use any tool (ideally deployed from an OGF GIHub repository using GitHub Pages) to create that site content, and once this is ready we can create a redirect from the previous link to this new web site.

Let me know what you would like to do.

Does OGF have any sort of trade-mark or brand protection on the DFDL acronym? or even on "OGF DFDL"?

I noticed this new use of the acronym DFDL: http://signal.ee.psu.edu/research/dfdl.html

There is plenty of other use of DFDL already:

  *   dfdl.com<http://dfdl.com/> a legal-related firm in Bangladesh. DFDL is the name of their firm in acronym form.
  *   dfdl.org<http://dfdl.org/> a charitable foundation on Leukemia and blood disease.
  *   dfdl.net<http://dfdl.net/> - a chinese site that google translate doesn't auto-translate. The browser tab comes up in English as "Peninsula official entrance(China) official website". How that relates to the acronym DFDL I cannot tell.

Those really don't conflict with us. Though the loss of the .org domain name is unfortunate.

But this new usage is in a technology area so it gives me some concern.
