DFDL WG,

Question from James Garriss: Can an element have a default property and a fixed property? If so, what happens if their values are different?

I think the answer is that the default property and fixed property are mutually exclusive, as they are mutually exclusive in XSD 1.0. Is that correct?

If so, the DFDL specification could be a little clearer on this point. Adding a sentence to section 5.2.6 or 5.2.7 (or both) should suffice, something along the lines of "Note that the default and fixed properties are mutually exclusive in DFDL, just as they are in XSD 1.0; both properties may not be applied to the same element."

Thanks in advance,
