The initial idea came from the area of Grid Computing (in the light of lacking interop between different Grid community infrastructures). Therefore, I (naturally ;-) ) disagree on this. Also, we would lose the dynamic Grid extensibility use case, which is a feature requested by several German Community Grids that feature commercial applications: since the nationally funded compute farms are can generally not be used for commercial efforts (due to funding restrictions), they really would like to use external resources (aka. Cloud) as well, but not give up their Grid-based environments they already have in place.

Another important stakeholder is the D-Grid / Polish Grid cooperation, which is supposed to be rendered using whatever comes out of this WG.

I agree, though, that there might be different renderings of whatever we develop for the two (since the OCCI front seems to be pretty non-WS*)...

Granted that might be an eventual necessity and outcome/output but should it also be captured in the charter that suggested extensions/modifications to the listed existing standards be developed and provided as an output of the group and input to other OGF WGs? What I'm suggesting here is to avoid the recreation of existing APIs/protocols by using the new API as a proxy to them.

For those not familiar with the OGF process, this requires a formal group creation request to the Grid Forum Steering Group (GFSG) and a charter describing the purpose, goals, and scope of the group, and its position within OGF and other standardization organizations.
