New OGSA-DAI Releases for GT4, OMII_2 and Axis
==============================================
Data Access and Integration for the Grid
----------------------------------------

We are pleased to announce that the new releases of the OGSA-DAI software
(in source and binary distributions for GT4, OMII_2 and Axis) are available:

* Direct from the project website:
  http://www.ogsadai.org.uk/downloads/

The OGSA-DAI distribution contains Data Service components, as well as
example clients. These allow you to connect to MySQL, DB2, Oracle, Postgres,
SQL Server and XIndice databases, as well as indexed text files. They have
been tested on Windows 2000/XP, Redhat Enterprise Linux 3 and Solaris 9.

This is the seventh major release of OGSA-DAI and provides support for
different "flavours" of OGSA-DAI and middleware platforms.

In particular this release includes new versions of OGSA-DAI for GT4.0
(OGSA-DAI WSRF 2.1) and OGSA-DAI for OMII_2 and Axis 1.2.1 (OGSA-DAI WSI
2.1). Support for GT3 has been dropped in this release.

Highlights:

* OGSA-DAI supports a common core set of functionality
across three flavours: GT4, OMII_2 and Axis 1.2
* The Client Toolkit API provides abstraction across these flavours.
* Data service resources now support concurrent request execution and
  queueing of requests.
* Sessions are now supported. Multiple perform documents can be
submitted which operate within the context of the same session.
Data transport operations now operate within the scope of a session.
* Security is supported between client and service: TLS and MLS for
services deployed under GT4, MLS for services deployed under OMII_2.
* Data service accessors now manage access to a data resource on behalf
of a data service resource, with their own specific configuration files.
* Configurable data services provide an undeploy operation so that a
service can be instructed to no longer expose a specific resource.
* The java.sql.ResultSet to WebRowSet converters have been rewritten to
  improve efficiency.
* There is support for automatic MDS registration in the GT4 flavour.
* The OGSA-DAI data browser is now compatible with both OGSA-DAI WSRF
  2.1 and OGSA-DAI WSI 2.1 services.

More detailed information is available in the Release Notes for each
flavour.
