When I wired the 12v to the second relay, something shorted in an
   unsourced burst of smoke.
   I shouldn't have wired it while powered. Then I could have tested the
   wiring.
   I'm not sure why this happened, given the signal for the second relay
   is not grounded. I wonder if I simply knocked something I hadn't
   insulated yet.
