Just like how your position on the effect of voter IDs is determined entirely by whether or not you think voter fraud exists -- and how either way you view the opposing side as attacking democracy -- how we handle asylum seekers and illegal immigrants at the border is largely dictated by what you think of the people coming over the border. If you think they are largely criminals or freeloaders (with a few good exceptions) looking to dilute the purity of our people, then it makes sense to build walls and panic when people climb them. On the other hand, if you view immigrants -- even illegal immigrants -- as largely the key to our future prosperity (with a few bad exceptions), then you want all the migrants you can get. Every single developed nation in the world is shrinking, and immigration is the only thing keeping our nation growing. The population within our borders has too low a birth rate to sustain itself, and most of our social systems depend on a high ratio of workers to retirees -- a ratio that would be catastrophically bad were it not for immigtration. Furthermore, every single "undeveloped" nation is seeing population growth decelerate dramatically. World population is going to peak in 2050 (if not sooner -- birth rates are dropping with shocking rapidity everywhere; 2020 is the least growth in recorded history), and then go down, forever. Everything we've come to know about population growth and its second order effects -- the constant influx of new people to cities, constant hammering of new construction, the constant complaints about traffic getting worse as people come from "somewhere else" to your town. All that's going to stop, in your lifetime. And all the economic growth that comes from building those new buildings, building those new cars -- all that's going to stop, too. Winning the "human race" largely means having the most humans, and the youngest humans. Immigration is the most powerful tool we have as a nation to ensure our future success relative to other countries that have larger, younger workforces than we do. And before you turn to automation to save us, consider: do you own those robots? If not, why do you think you are going to benefit from their advances? We're in for a wild ride, and we're going to rue the day we turned down young immigrants eager to work hard and build a better life, simply because of a line on a map. -david On Sun, Mar 21, 2021 at 10:47 PM grarpamp <[1]grarpamp@gmail.com> wrote: Chinese Immortality Plan... "Instead, in the span of just a few weeks, the Biden Administration has turned a national triumph into a national disaster. They are in way over their heads and taking on water fast." Trump then turned his attention to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas - who went on several news networks Sunday morning claiming that "the border is closed." Mayorkas' performance was "pathetic," "clueless," and a "national disgrace." "His self-satisfied presentation - in the middle of a massive crisis he helped engineer - is yet more proof he is incapable of leading DHS. Even someone of Mayorkas' limited abilities should understand that if you provide Catch-and-Release to the world's illegal aliens then the whole world will com." Trump then slammed Mayorkas for a "Gag Order on our Nation's heroic border agents and ICE officers," which the former president said should be the subject of an immediate congressional investigation. "But it's clear they are engaged in a huge cover-up to hide just how bad things truly are," Trump continued. Trump then suggested that the Biden administration should "immediately complete the wall, which can be done in a matter of weeks," adding "they never should have stopped it" and are "causing death and human tragedy." Trump releases statement on latest developments in border crisis: [8]pic.twitter.com/G2qHsxTgZI — Byron York (@ByronYork) March 21, 2021 Trump's statement came minutes after Fox News reported that Biden's border agents in the Texas Rio Grande Valley are releasing illegal migrants into the United States without a court date. Multiple Border Patrol agents confirmed the new process to Fox News, revealing that they have been directed to use prosecutorial discretion (PD) to forgo the hours-long process of paperwork required to issue an NTA amid the surge of migrants at the border. Instead, migrants are registered into the system with biometrical data taken and largely released into the public - in one instance - at a bus station in McAllen, TX. The processing is being done mostly at a temporary outdoor processing site. Border Patrol agents emphasized that this does not apply to unaccompanied children. -Fox News A senior source with Customs and Border Protection told Fox News on Saturday that immigration officials are resorting to this type of catch-and-release because the border crisis "has become so dire that BP [Border Patrol] has no choice but to release people nearly immediately after apprehension because there is no space to hold people even to do necessary NTA paperwork." The immediate catch-and-release does not apply to child migrants - 15,500 of which have been sitting in 'cages' built by the Obama-Biden administration - many beyond the legally allowed 72-hour limit.
