the big trigger here for me i guess relates to time spent on the task,
and utility of the immediate result

although this would of course be much easier with visualization, a
good thing for me to learn here is that i can have success more easily
if i start with data so simple, that it actually passes for some other
reason. data i understand the structure of well enough to verify what
is going on.
