this is a pretty complex expansion for me atm.

a difficulty here relates to how the situation forces you to convey
yourself certain ways to others.
- the rebuilt people can't complain to boss: not just for respect's
sake but because boss has an active project that prevents criticism
from reaching him.  this comes out as algorithms in their synthetic
voiceboxes that the engineers believe boss asked to be placed there,
to cover up top secret information
