there was a report recently that a huge number of apps are somehow
uploading data to facebook's servers without facebook being installed

it looked legitimate to me but I do not have a link and could have been in
an altered state of mind.  would be interested in trying to dig it up if
anyone values the potential factoid more than as an unverified viewpoint.
