empirically, some monarchies work very well, for example Dubai, and some
democracies work horribly badly.

Of course you would doubtless argue that a democracy that works horribly
badly is not a real democracy - and it is usually the case that in a
democracy that works horribly badly, the opposition gets cancelled,
deplatformed, demonetized, beaten up, and imprisoned on frivolous
charges, while the ruling faction gets away with obvious criminal acts.

Like the USA.
