this was perhaps my darkest hour: promoting DNS  (~_~;)

in penance, i now use a hosts file (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_(file) ) manually synchronized via avian carrier. See RFC 1149...

this achieves both DNS independence and (avian) air gap! :P
