The cookie mafia tells you not to tell anybody about the horrific
atrocities they have engaged in, in pursuit of sugar.  They make _you_
engage in these atrocities: introduce cookies to you, let you smell
them.

Whole groups of people will welcome you to areas where people are
eating cookies -- parties and community events and such -- and all of
them subtly snub you, if you don't partake too.
