This NY Times article focuses entirely on local opinions about Liberal Studies. It makes no comparative analysis, or even examination of what Liberal Studies is.

Presumably it is similar to civics classes in the west. Critical thinking is encouraged in class.

I have no idea why critical thinking would be valuable in society.
